I have several chargers, and just ordered a iMax B6 universal hobby charger to try some Lithium polymer variants like the 14500 (size of AA, but higher capacity and 3.7v, its a flashlight thing).
Most common chargers only work on pairs of batteries, but they are cheap. Two other kinds at a minimum are handy; a stupid charger, and a single cell. Stupid chargers aren't smart, smart chargers will not attempt to charge a fully discharged battery, so I use a stupid charger to kick start the charging. Single cell chargers like the LaCrosse let you charge different capacity (or age) cells and make matched sets by measuring capacity and running reconditioning cycles of full discharge and charge to remove memory effects.
That gives me 4 types of chargers, universal hobby charger that charges anything even packs and lead acid, stupid chargers, two smart chargers, one of which does 4 batteries at a time individually.
Don't forget to properly dispose of old batteries at a battery recycling center.
