duped this morning by a homeless person

Waiting for my order at the donut shop, this homeless person comes up to the cashier and orders some food. He doesn't have enough money so is turned away. He turns to me and asks me to help him out buy the food. Being in the holiday spirit, I give him $5. He takes the money and walks quickly out the door. I just shook my head, this is what I get for trying to be nice. Now he's probably going to use it to get booze.

LOL, in spirit of clever money tactics - I was at McDonalds recently and some kid flashed a picture on his phone to a guy at the register and claimed how the guy worked there, and said that he'd get hooked up with a free meal if he showed his pic.

That was hilarious. I wonder if it ever worked.

You should have chased him down and kicked his ass. It's for stuff like the OP's story as to why I DO NOT ABSOLUTELY give money to people, AT ALL.

I'm with you guys. You seriously can't tell me a person can't get a job at McDonalds or some other shitty fast food chain. There are places just oozing jobs, it's the fact that people think it's below them. I have more respect for someone working a shitty job and trying to get by then someone begging for money on the side of the street.

Quite a few Xmas' ago I had just bought myself a new stereo system. As I was leaving the parking lot I saw a panhandler. I figured it was Xmas and I just spent a gob of money on myself so I gave him $5. As I was driving away it occurred to me that he was dressed better than I was. :|

I remember being a 13 year old kid. Some friends and I bought a bunch of sandwiches from Subway and tried to give them to homeless people. We must have talked to 50 homeless people. Every single one rejected our food, but asked for money instead. 🙁

So...he should have been able to eat those clothes, or sell them to buy food or necessities?

If I were homeless, I'd be a smart homeless person. First sign I'd create would be to please bring me a large thick black marker when you pass by here tomorrow.

TBH, if I were homeless I don't think I'd trust food from random strangers, especially some 13 year old kids who may be trying to pull some prank by slipping something into the food for a laugh. There are soup kitchens, shelters, food pantries, etc., that have food for the homeless and poor.

F*ck the homeless. Sorry, but I live downtown and walk by at least 1 or 2 shelters almost daily and have done so for 20 years. There are a few genuine retards, one or two that actually seem down on their luck and may be nice, and then you have the two-faced crackwhore rest. Pieces of shit have used racial slurs on me when I say 'sorry', and I've been essentially shaken down before. I just avoid eye contact, even with those saying "excuse me" because that's the line manipulative fucks use before they start their sob story. Sorry to the tourists wanting directions.

Fuck professional beggers make more money than you by doing absolutely nothing.

i'll give a can of food to a homeless man, but nothing else. but hell i'm even leery about people with the bells outside of stores. i mean anyone can make a red can, put on a santa hat and just stand outside walmart shaking a bell.

guess i'm just a bit too untrusting. but hell can't even trust legit companies these days, all everyone wants is your money, one way or another.

Woa, you are so hardcore.

I would never want to get on your bad side.

i agree, i have sympathy for many of them, i just don't trust any of them lol.
but yeah, no point in being a hardass about life like Baked is, especially when your experiences with it are actually quite linear.
not everyone even has the mental capacity, experience or education to just go out any work a systematic job daily.
Some also are Vets, they can't get a job cause no one will hire them, its media news and something Obahma touched on recently.

but no, here you find hardass's out there who think every coin has a picture of washington on it, life just doesnt work like that, no matter how hard everyone should try. success is a mirrored door at the end of a maze, not everyone will have the means, time or opportunity to find it.

Interesting to see this thread today. Our church went to distribute food, toiletries and clothes to homeless people and to a shelter this morning. The food was a package with some apples, two sandwiches, chips, candy. The toiletries were separate bags with a couple disposable razors, soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothbrush/toothpaste and mouthwash. We went to a couple places where we knew there would be groups - under bridges and by a river. After that we took the remaining stuff to a shelter.

We did not have a single person turn down the food. Not one. Not everyone wanted clothes, but those who did were appreciative. Without exception, they were polite and sincerely grateful. And not one asked for money.
