That's a shame. Kalypso did a great job with Tropico 3, which was really just a modernization of the first Tropico. So if they were doing the same treatment to DK1/DK2 with Dungeons I wouldn't have had a problem since I played neither of those.

Is it a problem of bugs/glitches or is the design of the game just bad?

Both from what I hear. People said that it feels lifeless and much of the building aspect and complexity has been removed. Its now mostly just a grind?

I also liked tropico 3 and purchased it but I am holding back on this one. I will update if I hear more from people.

Maximilian, the reviews were from a forum that I cant post here. Im just repeating what I heard.

The game has leaked online and the user reviews are very bad so far. I have not played it personally but I would recommend waiting for some full reviews and a price drop before committing.

I really want this to be a good game but am def not going to preorder it now. :(

Called it.

I've only played 2 levels into the campaign, but the game feels too much like Rollercoaster Tycoon and not enough like Dungeon Keeper. And unless I'm missing something it seems like there isn't much past the campaign and three sandbox levels. The way dungeon monsters are tied to specific spawn points makes me think there is no adversarial dungeon aspect to the game and the whole game is mostly about entertaining the heroes that come into the dungeon. Disappointing.

Basically all you do is sit there and wait for the "patrons" that come into your dungeon to go on all the "rides" (looting treasure chests, monster spawn points, armor racks, etc.) and then you kill them to harvest their soul energy so you can build more shit to harvest more heroes. Then at some point you either hit an arbitrary number and the level is over or you take your hero that levels up with stats and a talent tree to go kill some end boss dude. If they had made the hero patronage aspect an ancillary feature instead of the focus it could have been interesting but as it is the game is just BORING.

At least, that's what I've heard. ;)

The concept of Dungeon Keeper/Dungeons seems fitting for someone to take up and create as a roguelike with success.

Nope. Not sure of the origination but anyone that's spent any time playing games of the genre (Dwarf Fortress, NetHack, Stone Soup, Goblin Camp, etc) would probably have come across it.

and by demo you mean the pirated copy of the game?

there is no demo yet.

In an era of no demos, unreliable reviews and a glut of terrible games there is little recourse. I fully support buying games, even more-so from smaller developers--it's the only way more good games I like will be developed. I'll be damned if I'm going to fork over my money for all the tripe there is out there today only to play an hour and realize it's terrible.

You're rationalizing stealing because if you like it, you might buy it. I understand your frustration but you might as well just admit you pirate games. You probably will not buy 90% of the games you pirate, and you are using software you did not pay for.

Good rationale on doing something that is completely un ethical there bud, it's like you're saying it's ok to go around raping women because no woman would wants to have sex with you...just as long as you don't get caught.

Guys ffs hes posted an opinion about the game which he played on his friends comp... leave it at that. How his friend acquired it who cares, discuss it in another thread, just be thankful that someones posted something thats allowed those of us who were looking forward to this game to have potentially dodged a bullet.

:goodposting:

That said, people really pay full price for games these days? My catalogue is so full of games right now that there aren't enough hours in the day to play them all. So as I work thru this mountain of games that I have, then I'll look to buying something new...but by that time, the price has dropped. :)

My Steam & GOG lists would disagree with you.

This is quite possibly the stupidest analogy I've ever heard.

Hey look, someone gets it. You can take my review for what it is or you can stand on your soap boxes and nail me to the cross. For all you in the latter camp, I hope you can figure out how to monetize that moral superiority to pay for all the lackluster games you probably buy.

No I played the demo on my friend's computer.

I also played this game on our mutual friend's computer and while the controls are a little weird I'm enjoying it so far. If our friend lets me play it much longer and I keep enjoying it I will DEFINITELY be preordering it!

did you invent the term? you're the only person i have ever seen use this term

The term comes from the game Rogue, the first of the roguelike games. If you have never played NetHack you really should, it is a very fun game, and probably the epitome of roguelike games. I still play them often, but I've played NetHack to death and mostly play ADOM now when I want a roguelike.

As for Dungeons, I'm saddened by the bad reviews coming so far, but I still expect that this will be on my watch list for when Steam has a good sale this summer or next xmas.

It's good to have friends. How far did you go with it? It just doesn't seem like there's very much to do. From a quasi-RTS standpoint it's absolutely terrible. From a themepark standpoint I could see how some people might have fun with it if you like to just build things sit back and watch. But even then, the game doesn't really offer anything equivalent to the experience of designing your own roller coasters or the depth of Theme Hospital. If I'm really missing something here please enlighten me.

I never played any of the DK games. I may try this depending on reviews upon release. Have they said what month its expected to release?

My friend only let me play the first level and some of the 2nd level,
I've only opened up the 2nd hero gate on the 2nd level. The area of influence thing with the pentagrams is an interesting game mechanic
, I'll have to play more before I can say whether I like it or not.

did you ever play DK or DK2?

Holy SHIT!

Dude! I just watched the demo video. Did any of you guys see that?
They didnt take inspiration from Dungeon Keeper. THEY FLAT OUT RIPPED IT OFF!!

I seriously hope they paid EA for the rights to it, cuz if not they are gonna get sued.
