Dungeon Siege at Gamestop's Stopwatch sale

Gamestop.com has the new game "Dungeon Siege" for $37.99 during their stopwatch sale. It looks like the price is good until tomorrow at noon. It also comes with a free mini-guide. The release date for this game is 4/4/02 so this is a pre-order. This is supposed to be a great game.

Edit: Sale extended until 3/29 at 9AM (PST) or while supplies last.

Edit again: Looks like you can save on shipping by going through EBWorld. Instead of getting a mini-guide, you get a cloth map. Thanks to ericb (who posted below) for the info.

Actually, EBWorld has the same preorder at the same price of $37.99. Here is the link. Shipping is also the same price for 2nd day air.

Heatmiser,
When Diablo II first came out, I had ordered it from ebworld.com... It came out in the stores before my copy was even shipped(although I had pre-ordered). I ended up canceling my order and going to the local store and buying it. However, it seems that if you can order the game directly from the company who made it, that it will usually be there on the day or before the stores get it.

Thanks.

I went to the microsoft site to see if you could order it from the maker, and here's what they say:

"You can pre-order Dungeon Siege today through three exclusive programs with Electronics Boutique, GameStop, and GameFixx.com. Adventurers who pre-order from Electronics Boutique will receive a cloth map that highlights such wondrous locales such as the Ice Caverns, Fortress Kroth and Stonebridge, all situated within the Kingdom of Ehb.

Those who pre-order from GameStop will receive a full color 20+ page mini-strategy guide by Sybex. This guide will provide gamers with advance knowledge into the intricacies of character creation, combat, magic and character development.

And finally, those who pre-order from GameFixx.com will receive a Dungeon Siege t-shirt featuring the Rock Beast!" (link)

So, those who want the t-shirts, er, know where to find 'em. 😉

Sorry, a little confused here. I just ordered yesterday from gamestop for 37.99. Does the EBWorld coupon apply to the 37.99 price making it 27.99? If so I'm going to try and cancel the gamestop order.

I can't see what the advantage is in pre-ordering games, besides maybe a special price. They usually keep the price the same and have plenty on hand when released. The only time I would pre-order a game, is when there is a special limited version of it, like in Diablo 2 collector's Edition.

Otherwise, please tell me why you other people pre-order games? what are advantages?

The advantages here are the price and the freebie (guide, map, or shirt). Otherwise, I'd just pick it up at a B&M when it arrives, or wait until it goes on sale (but that's a gamble).

Dungeon Siege looks like it's going to be impressive, but given the state of the game industry it'll be a cold day in hell before I preorder anything. Anyone remember Daikatana or Pool of Radiance or any of dozens of others that were hyped beyond belief and were utter crap when they hit the shelves? It pays to wait a day or two and read the message boards on the publishers site to determine if the game is worth buying now, worth buying after the 3rd or 4th patch 3 months from now or will it not even be worth buying in 8 months when it's in the $4.99 bin at CompUSA. The greater the push to get people to pay up front for a "Collectors Edition" or a few extras, the more I doubt if the game has enough substance to survive once the reviews and bug reports hit the streets. Anyway, 2 weeks after release CompuExpert will probably have it for $10 under the preorder price as part of their 48 Hour Madness sale, so you can buy your own guide.

anyone notice that the ebworld rebate is a gift coupon code sent by email??? read the bottom of the coupon link and it says u have to use the gift coupon in full on next purchase.

got my copy this morning at EB - $49.99 plus tax.
$10 mail-in rebate (gift card). Mybe not the best
deal on the price, but I can play as soon as I get home
from work!!!!! Can't wait!!!!

how do u like it? And were u a huge Diablo II fan? (i was, and the reviews i read was that it would be somewhat disappointing to a DII fan)

Not Bad!!!! Been playing about an hour now.

Yes - I'm a Diablo 2 addict - have been ever since it came out. My boyfriend and I won
a trip to San Francisco to play it the August before it came out. I had never played Diablo
before, and wasn't impressed. Then I got chosen for the beta testing (I guess not many
females play games.....) and was hooked!

This is a little similar. The graphics are excellant! I'm still trying to get used to it.
But I think Dungeon Siege will get a devoted following. The downside is the
multiplayer will be played on one of the player's computers.....no realms like Diablo.
I think this will hurt it.

Will it replace Diablo 2 as my favorite - I don't think so.
I think it will be one of my favorite games on the computer, though.
I believe it's worth trying for Diablo fans. (just my opinion....please don't
shoot me if you don't agree.)
😀
