Dungeon Siege 2

Hey, just wanted to see if any of you are playing Dungeon Siege 2. Got pretty good reviews, and I am looking for a hack and slash game to play. My only concern is...is the 2nd game as prone to online hackers and dupers as the first one was? Or is it clean?

The GameSpot review convinced me not to get it for the single-player game.

You apparently have to unlock the higher difficulty levels.

Bored with the easy level? Too bad, you'll have to slog through all 40 hours before they'll let you play on normal difficulty.

Yeah I just read the review. Dumb design decision to make you beat the game in order to increase difficulty. It's too easy to start with. Seems like the designers made the weak point of the game even more of a PITA.

I think it's fun, but not amazing. It isn't rediculously easy, but once you get the hang of things you shouldn't die.

Yeah, the fact that you have to finish on easy just to unlock normal is an utterly stupid idea. The game doesn't have enough going for it to put up with that nonsense.

Im sure youll be able to go into a config file and unlock it easily. Granted its stupid that you would have to but hey I would only get it for coop anyways. BTW is there coop?

Woa, Woa, Woa. The review says you start at the _easiest_ difficulty. This is not the same as easy, this is normal difficulty. Anyone who has played Dungeon Siege 1 or Diablo (I believe Diablo had this) will remember the veteran / etc modes that were unlocked everytime you beat the game. These modes basically just upped the level of all the creatures in the game by some arbitrary level to extend the gameplay. In other words, this is nothing new.

Diablo2 had it yes. Is it annoying? Definately.

Hell difficulty was in general a challenge to play through. Normal and Nightmare trained you up but delayed the inevitably better challenge.

Yes, but the underlying factor is that you couldn't just take a level 1 char and play through hell difficulty because you wouldn't be able to kill the first monster you came across. It isn't a skill change it is more of a monster level upgrade.

Indeed but in most games there is a general progression. Early monsters are easy and as you progress in game, the monsters get harder. Repeating the game just to have the difficulty increased doesnt particularly appeal to me. Id rather have a strong game challenging throughout.

Blah

Played the demo and I'm thoroughly unimpressed. I won't be buying this rehashed crap.

F.E.A.R. on the other hand...🙂

Good info. Still not a smart move by the developers. I was looking for a more challenging game this time around but the gamespot review suggests the difficulty has not changed from DS 1. The review says that at harder difficulty it just takes longer to kill stuff but it is still easy. They shoulda made the game more challenging but apparently they didn't.

Im not impressed with it. Something isn't "right" with it... It just doesn;t have the same feel as DS1 did.
I'm passing 100% on it, and thats after logging COUNTLESS hours with freinds on the original DS1. *sob*

So it's like Diablo 2, even at harder difficulties the monsters are still easy. How are the items and stuff? Is the online game prone to hacks?

I'm currently playing the full game and I'm thoroughly enjoying it! 🙂

The difficulty level is such a minor thing, and no different than the way Diablo 2 worked where you had to complete the Normal level game before proceeding on to Nightmare and later Hell.

The game as a whole is WAY better than the original Dungeon Siege. The specialty powers work similar to the way the skill trees worked in Diablo 2. And the Summon Teleport is basically the same as Town Portal in Diablo 1 & 2 so you're not stuck walking all the time as you were in DS1. Another thing is that there are ALOT more secret rooms and secret areas than there were in the original, maybe even more so than most other similar games too. I'm one of those gamers that enjoys exploring every nook and cranny of a game, so there's no way I'll complete this one in 40 hours. Heck, while I am close to the end of Act 1(of 3 Acts plus a secret level), I've already logged about 23 hours of fun. I'm glad I bought the game!

I'm enjoying it so far but the combat is a little boring. Not being able to start back were you saved is lame. Way to pad the playtime.
