Anyone have settings/suggestions that make DK2 run better in vista (32)?

I installed it on a modern laptop and it's giving me like 2 FPS and graphical glitches; I've got tons of per-application settings available in the nvidia control panel.

Played DK1 for hour and hours and hours

I could never get DK2 to run properly, it would always crash.

As I have said in many other forums on here in reguards to this game it is one of the best games of all time in my opinion. Especially when LAN parties are done. If they ever made DK3 I think it would be sold out everywhere for the first 6 months due to the size of the fan base this game has. I really miss it. Not long ago I reinstalled it on win 7 64 bit to replay the game. It's still very fun after all these years.

My thoughts, too.

Wish someone would take the idea onboard and make a new game.

I'm honestly surprised in all these years since DK2 nobody has done anything even remotely like it considering the success DK2 had.

Evil Genius was in the same vein, and was a decent game.

For sale now on GOG.com . I just picked up two of the Pro Pinball games so I resisted the temptation to buy this, plus for some reason I did not take part in their sale for the Simon the Sorceror games. So they are higher on my list.

I still have both DK2 and the original Dungeon Keeper. Very fun games we need some updated versions.

I tried playing DK2 last week...I just get a totally black screen in game except for the monster hand cursor. The game is still playing, it just isn't rendering any of the world or menus.

I had to fucking hard reset the PC to get out!

Dungeon Keeper 2 works on my Windows 7 machine. I am not sure what version of DKII I am running. I will check if anyone thinks it might help.

Still one of my all time favorite games.

I installed it right from my original disk - I see EA's supposed to have an update from 1.30->1.70 but it's not available on it's FTP. I found it on Firefront and tried it but it failed - I assume I'm lower than 1.30.

I'm not seeing version anywhere?

Evil Genius is also only $9.99 on Steam (please don't turn this into a Steam flamewar!), downloading now!

Ok.. I bought and played Evil Genius not too long ago.. But i got bored extremely quickly with it.

The game is all about making money and training construction workers. The game also plays in real time and has no speedup options or anything.

Once you build your base and run out of money.. the whole money-making process becomes extremely boring, and tedious.

You have to train construction workers (towards the beginning) to steal money, etc. EXCEPT the AI kills off your construction workers in matters of heartbeats once you put them into other regions, regardless of my Heat rating in that region.

THEN, you have to wait literally an hour in real time for your construction workers to become fully recruited because you have no money.. and it takes money to recruit them faster, which gets lost once the AI kills off your workers trying to steal money..

Anyways, I tried the game out and thought it was really really cool for about a few hours.. now i havent touched it. Its a MASSIVE time sink after the first few hours, with you just sitting there staring and watching... and waiting.. for recruits and for money.

Unless i'm doing something totally wrong which i may be.

Any tips for this game? It takes lightyears to earn money

WAY wrong!@!!!

Use combat minions for stealing. Throw 15 guards out there and you are making 20k/minute.

Also, if you build good traps that link together.. and are able to get enemies to trigger them you will earn money depending on how many traps in a series they are hit with. If they are hit with just one trap nothing happens.. but if you make a wind trap push them into another trap you get money.

A good way to do this is to make a labrynth with the wind traps so that they keep blowing all over the place.. then at the end of the laybrynth a deadly one to finish them off. BUILD YOUR TRAPS IN A FREEZER!... then minions don't have to carry body bags off.. door off the freezer and lock it so your own minions can't enter. If you place your freezer/traprooms right then enemies will enter those before anything else.

Be careful to make sure there are a good amount of sensors in the traproom. If the enemies get a chance to stop and think they might start attacking your traps. You need to try and make sure your traps are going quite often.

There is a trick to make 'freaks' from freak production trigger your trap rooms for you.. so you don't have to worry about enemies blowing up sensors. You wont get these for a while though.

Later in the game you get to start researching. There are hundreds of researching things in the game including some really awesome traps.

Thanks a ton! I have guards, but i never thought of using them to steal money.

The game guide mentioned i would get certain troops later on that would be better at stealing money but i figured it was something i would get later on down the line.

Think i'll go play it right now and train a few more guards then ;)
