Does anyone else here think this is a VERY underrated movie? I love this flick. I think it just feels so epic. Even though Lynch doesn't approve of it, I really love the extra long 4+ hour Alan Smithee (hehe) version that has been on TV. If they would make an ultra DVD of that version, I would be in heaven!

Yeah, the story of the tv version was ok, but man it felt CHEEZY, and they really scraped the bottom of the barrel for the actors.

The Lynch has:
JOSE FERRER
KYLE MCLAUGHLEN
PATRICK STEWART
MAX VON SYDOW
THE GERMAN SUB CAPTAIN FROM DAS BOOT
RICHARD JORDAN
THE HOLOGRAM GUY FROM QUANTOM LEAP

that is an awesome cast. Ferrer was such a grea Shaddom IV.

That version of Dune is a very odd movie... And don't forget it has Sting playing Feyd.

Much better than the new one, every time I'm flipping throught the channels and this movie is on I have to watch it. Does anyone have the DVD? Does it have any good extras?

The acting, set design and "feel" of the original was far superior to the new one even if the ending and the "weirding modules" weren't true to the books. Lynch's dune was epic, the new one was dutiful and plodding.

Another great supporting cast member in the original was maudib's little sister -- she was so much more eerie than in the scifi version.

Jose Ferrer: "Bring in that floating Fat Man! The Baron!"

Sting: "I will kill him!" .................You gotta love Sting's overacting! He was having too much fun in that role.

Lynchs adaptation of the Barren was terrible and discusting other than that pretty good movie a three star out of 4. Heart plugs WTF? The most accuate version I've seen is the scifi channels production a couple years back along with Children of Dune. In fact I'd say Children of Dune is better. Rent all three and compare.
