ok as some of u may know.. last year i did some dumpster diving at my school and found a maxtor hard drive that was still under warranty... that was deemed bad... and got a 30gb hard drive for $6 for the shipping... well guess what... i found a 32x cdrom drive today... that still works fine.. and i pulled it out of a socket 3 computer.... so how it worked in there is beyond me... anyhoo... i was wondering if anyone else makes these kinds of finds

Ugh, not another dumpster thread. I can already visualize nik's holier than thou posts disgusted that anyone accept the practice.

I dunno if this is necesarrily dumpster but I helped my friend carry back a metal futon frame in decent shape. It sure beats paying $$$ so all he needed was a futon 😀

There's an extensive thread on this at a certain "rather-firm" forum. Its supposed to be fun, though I have never gathered the gonads to do it.

i read a similar thread over at fw some time ago when i was home in socal. i was curious enough to drive around my area to see if there were any stores with open dumpsters in the back. they all had chutes though ... and some of them had security guards. my uncle is a security guard and he said that he knows some security guards that dumpster dive while on the job (theyre bored and they can get good money reselling stuff they find). he said if i asked the guards probably wouldn't mind ... but that's too much for me. i have to keep some semblance of pride in front of people. =) maybe up here in norcal they'll have better dumpsters. i know we've found a lot of cool stuff that the good people of berkeley have just put out on the sidewalk.
