Dump my Crossfire X1950+X1900 Setup for new ATI 2900XT??

Ok so I have been waiting a long time to be able to get a one card solution to replace my crossfire x1950 + X1900 setup. I was really hoping to see the one card beat out my dual card setup kinda like when Nvidia releases a new series and their faster card is usually able to beat their previous top cards in SLI.

I read the reveiws.... and hum... still shaking my head. I am also confused about the power consumption. Please tell me I DO NOT need to get yet another PSU. I have 3 sitting in my basement that are pefectly good just I never thought they could handle new SLI/Crossfire rigs.

I am very happy with the price of the 2900XT... heck if I can sell my two current cards for a decent amount I wont lose any $$!! Which is nice. However I am debating whether at this stage just dump the whole ATI and get myself a 8800GTS 640 card.. sigh.

If your PSU can handle the power draw of the HD2900XT, and you can wait one or two driver revisions, I say wait a bit to see what happens.

If you need a new card now, or would have to purchase a new PSU, then I'd say go with the 320 or 640 gts
 
I don't see how your gfx setup is holding you back from too much of anything and would probably not notice a whole lot if you did go with the GTS 640meg card

hold on and wait for the Radeon 2000 series to come out and the Geforce 8000 series chips should gradually become cheaper. then make your pick when ATI puts out better drivers, the performance issues might be fixed for the 2900XT

If there's a game you just absolutely have to play that your CF rig isn't doing well with, then get an 8800 GTX.

If you're content with the games your playing but are wanting to get ready for the ones to come, don't rush into things and buy hardware before you know how it's going to do with your desired games.

I'm more of the second case, content with my current games but interested in upcoming ones. But I'm not going to upgrade anything else until I know what I'll need.

Pretty sure it has virtually nothing to do with performance and a lot to do with bragging rights😛.
