Dummy Monitor

I'm trying to run a linux box headless. I log in remotely using RealVNC on screen 0. This only works if a monitor is plugged into the video card while its booting, the monitor doesn't even have to be on.

I'd like to know how to make a video connector that will emulate the monitor being plugged in so i don't have to keep a monitor handy for reboots.

thanks,

David

hey David,
after a bit of searching by me and a couple other guys in my shop we found this
website

scroll down a bit to terminators for enhanced video cards. looks like you'll need a D-sub 15 plug, 3 75 Ohm resistors, and a jumper, (or just a piece of wire) you can google a search on pinouts for VGA/video connectors and that should get you on your way to building one. no luck finding any prebuilts for sale anywhere, hope this helps.
Cheers

Thanks windraider....I had found a few thing's on google but nothing as specific as what you found.

no problem,
slow day at the shop. if you get it working let me know, i'm sure others might be out there looking for something similar. here's a couple sites where we found pinouts too, not sure if you need them or not, anyway, here, and slightly easier to see
again, let us all know how it goes.
cheers

Finally had time to try it today....made it with 100 ohm resistors, wokred like a charm.

Thanks again,

David
