i went to borders today during lunch and browsed through the health section. there were two medical doctors (i noticed their name badges) sitting at a table and chairs at the end of the aisle (both wore scrubs). as i was flipping through a book about the raw food diet, i overheard them getting into an argument.

dr. 1: "wes, you can't possibly believe in the germ theory still, can you?"

dr. 2: "oh christ, not again"

dr. 1: "pasteur himself recanted his own germ theory before he died"

dr. 2: "haha i don't understand how the hell you even treat people thinking the way you do. why the fuck are you even a doctor if the germ theory was i myth? you sound like one of those crazy obama birthers."

dr. 1: "oh stfu... blah blah blah"

basically, he went on about how it's a myth and how it's a shame they still teach germ THEORY in schools without doing more studies on it and how there's not enough recent scientific research about it other than relying on the writings of some 19th century chemist.

i wanted to grab a book and smack him hard in the face with it.

i haven't been able to get it out of my head all day long... it was giving me a headache trying to figure it out... how the hell could this guy honestly not believe in the germ theory?

germs can cause diseases.

Hmm, I was thinking there'd be more to it than that :^D

How can anyone who's made it out of grade school argue against that?

odd coincidence that you:
1. know about germ theory
2. have an opinion on germ theory strong enough to say something like "how the hell could this guy honestly not believe in germ theory"
3. went to borders and overheard 2 other people that qualify for #1 and #2 (above) talking about germ theory

Er... what exactly is the counter-argument? If not germs, what causes diseases?

People still believe the earth is only a couple thousand years old. People will believe whatever they want.

this is what i've been wondering all day long...

i mean...

wtf... there are just so many examples that to even think of a good one would be hard because there are so many to choose from...

i'm just shocked and extremely confused and very intrigued to find out more of why he doesn't think that having unprotected sex with someone who has aids is a bad idea

Since you can actually see bacteria and viruses destroy cells under a microscope, any argument against germ theory gets stopped in its tracks.

Some people believe sickness is all in your mind and that germs are just a scapegoat. One of my old coworkers was like that. He was Buddhist or, at least, he went to a Buddhist school in Colorado to get with hippie chicks.

Only a theory  Ugh, people suck. Text.

Andy Dick came from a Cobb Co. HS.

Near-by Clayton Co. schools lost accreditation last year... the first time that's happened to an entire district in 30 years.

lol this doctor stuff has gone to your head.

How much germ theory background have you had to be able to validate either's claims though?

People are weird.

I always ask one simple question... where is the peer reviewed scientific evidence? If there is none to back up a "theorey" that is counter to accepted belief, then I'm not buying it. If a person doesn't want to believe in germ theorey, thats fine, but get into a lab and prove that it is wrong, or prove their hypothesis right!

I am willing to validate that germ theory is a lie... all I need is some volunteers who are willing to be injected with some Streptococcus pyogenes.

Is this something you dreamed up to segue into a conversation about how Chiro is as legit as germ theory?

seeing as anyone who is alive should both know and have an opinion on germ theory, its not much of a coincidence
