I still use the PS/2 ports for my kb and mouse. The mouse is USB but I put the adapter on it to make use of the PS/2 port for the mouse.

The KB is naturally a PS/2, but if it weren't, I'd stick an adapter on it. It just seems stupid to have the ports on my mobo and not use them. Other than the obvious multiple devices on a single port, what could I be losing out on? It doesn't seem like much.

You're not really losing out on anything.

Some high resolution (e.g. gaming) mice work better with the additional bandwidth USB provides. Some keyboards can also use the additional bandwidth of USB (I know Logitech has some keyboards that have LCD displays built-in to display additional system information). Some keyboards also have USB ports built-in, so they can act as a USB hub.

But if you're not missing any functionality for your own usage, then there is nothing to worry about.

PS/2 mouse and keyboard are fine. In fact, I prefer PS/2.

I have problems with my MS Optical 3000 USB mouse "freezing", and I have to unplug and re-plug it to get it to work.
Someone else I know upgraded their wireless mouse+keyboard from PS/2 to USB, and now they can't use them in System Commanded (a boot menu program).

So there are still definately problems with USB peripherals. PS/2 isn't going away for a long time.

Good.

I intend to plug the stick and throttle into one port (the port powers the leds and MFD) and the pedals into another. Then all other devices plug into the hub, while the iPod and cameras plug into the front ports.

I also have two other ports on a back plate between the GPU and the sound card, so I have a total of eight 2.0 USB ports on this machine.

I prefer PS/2 for the keyboard. I've run into too many systems that supposedly support USB keyboards before windows loads but half the time it doesn't work. Like some that supported it, but you have to get in the BIOS to enable the support first, but you can't since you only have a USB keyboard.....!

I use USB for my mouse though, have for a long time now. Seems to work a little better. Or maybe I'm just weird and there really isn't a difference.
