Dumb question time

I'm getting this message on bootup, " Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:

<Windows root>\system32\hal.dll.
Please re-install a copy of the above file.

How do I go about this?

Did you just get this message out of the blue, Or have you done some serious hardware swapping(Mobo mainly)?

Quick google search found this. Apparently its a problem with your boot.ini. Page has instuctions for checking your boot.ini or replacing hal.dll from the recovery console.
