Dumb question...can I power on the mobo without a CPU or RAM in?

This probably gets asked a lot, but I did some searching and didn't turn anything up, so...

I got an EPoX 8K7A+, and I don't have the CPU or RAM for it yet. I'm wondering if it's okay to plug it into the power supply and the switch on the case and turn it on without a CPU or RAM, just to make sure it works. I know that it can still have problems that can't be seen unless there's a CPU or RAM in, but I just want to make sure it can get the power supply fan going. Any problems doing this?

Thanks in advance,
J3

You can send power to it but nothing will happen.

1) PS
2) mobo
3) cpu
4) mem
5) video card

minimum post requirements...

on some(may be all) mobo, at least for mine, video card can be left out and the mobo will continue to boot up and fan will spin.

Comp will not boot up without vid card. The fans will spin up but it will give you a few beeps and that's it. If you had your HD connected, it wouldn't boot to windows w/o a vid card.

If you want to just make the fan in the PSU spin... why get the mobo involved? Just short out the appropriate wires from the PS and it'll turn on.. easy as PI.. only I forget which two wires.. a couple in the middle of the ATX connector there.. don't short the wrong ones though.
