I bought the original CS retail game. Should I be able to play on CS:source servers, or are they not compatible? It seems like I always have problems connecting to source servers.

Also, if I bought CS retail, am I entitled to upgrade to CS:S for free, or do I have to buy HL2 just to get updated graphics for CS?

CS (retail) and CS:S are not compatible. Unfortunately, the only way to get CS:S at the moment is to buy it as part of the HL2 package.

Also it's not just updated graphics, it's a new physics engine.
