Actually it looks like he hits water and his feet slip out from under him. Probably thought he would make a bigger jump if he crouched down low on the landing.

That's what I thought at first, but you can clearly see he is making his real jump for the water atleast 5 feet from the edge of the pool. I'm guessing he had his eyes closed or is just weetaded.
