So anyway I've been looking in purchasing an HDTV and found a decent deal at samsclub online store...

I registered an account using my Mom's business membership (food industry) and ordered the TV..

During the checkout process.. there was a checkbox asking if I was tax exempt... For some reason I decided to click on it just to see what it would say...

It brought me to a screen with:

Tax Exempt Agreement Statement

I hereby certify under penalty of perjury that I am registered with the state and local taxing authorities, that I am exempt from state and local sales and use tax as indicated by my exemption certificate and that all merchandise purchased tax free will be resold in the normal course of my business, used in operation of an exempt organization, or that I am engaged in farming or ranching and the property purchased will be used only in my farming or ranching operation. I further certify that if any property purchased tax free is used or consumed in a manner which would make it subject to sales or use tax, I will pay the tax direct to the proper taxing authorities.

Below there was an Deny or Accept button..

I clicked the DENY (or atleast I thought I did) and it brought me to another screen with a button/link asking me to click to finish my order... I clicked on it assuming it would take me to the previous page asking if I was tax exempt.. but no it went straight to the confirmation screen and the order was made (no tax)

Anyway... I am going to contact customer service.. but I am wondering what is the worst that could happen if I left it alone?

not a big deal, tell yer mom and the company can adjust it later on. the only time it gets kind of ugly is if she is audited and she hasnt taken care of that tax. we have vendors all the time audit us on stuff we buy, since about 35% about is for use in our shop/ office. we keep telling them to give us an option to buy with tax included for those, but they dont want to do the extra paperwork. i found that ironic, but their rep didnt catch whant i was meaning.

I find it hard to beleive it was an accident.

but odds are nothing will happen. that is unless she gets audited then she gets nailed for it bad.

if they dont have a tax certificate on file they will probably ask your mom to furnish one. It will probably rasie red flags because HDTV is not a typical tax free item.

No, DUMB is not contacting them and getting it straightened out before posting on ATOT about it.

Its not a big deal ... Sams should be able to fix it for you easily, but if not you should be able to pay it directly to your state.
