People use those terms interchangeably. It seems the less you know about guns the more likely you are to call a semi-auto handgun an automatic.

It might also have to do with language, i'm English and i'm fairly sure none of us Britons use the terms interchangeably, you are probably right about knowledge though, it usually works that way.

You sure as hell do carry a 1911 with the hammer back. Cocked and locked is the way the 1911 was designed to be carried; it's single-action only, not double-action (or even double-action only) like most European sidearms.

For something like a Sig or an H&K, which are either DA or DAO, you're right that you don't carry with the hammer back, but for a 1911 you absolutely do (you just make damn sure the safety is on).

I'm not going to be carrying a shit piece of gun like a 1911 and neither should anyone else, those are like lead chromed swords, they are for decoration only, and yeah, i'm talking about a P226, the only hand gun worth carrying apart from a S&W .357 revolver.

And i'm not a super soldier, just a frontier attack Captain and i might know something about the usage of some guns.

I favor the British A70 above any Barett except maybe for one... i favor the G3 because i don't do auto, i have others doing that for me, my job is to keep the opening clear and with a G3 and a Hershel 4x24 i can do that just fine..

You know what i want? I want a Tavor but i wouldn not mind an L98A2 either, in close quarters.

I have a Ruger LCP and a Sig P238. Am finding I prefer a striker weapon with a heavy trigger and no manual safety over a light trigger hammer weapon that needs to be cocked and the safety dropped. Its overall safer and I dont have to worry about anything getting caught in between the hammer and pin while I have the gun in my pocket.
On the range my Sig is a far more pleasant gun to shoot but real life is not a range, and nobody gets a pocket pistol for target practice. The idea is to have a simple reliable weapon that will save your life in an emergency. To that end it needs as few mechanical controls as possible, especially safeties (with the idea that the number 1 safety is between your ears) and it cant be allowed to jam or need extra actions to fire properly. I understand the preferred 1911 carry (even a micro 1911) is cocked and safety on, but thats not good enough for me. I like a striker gun cuz as long as theres a round in the chamber I know for a fact its cocked and cannot be decocked in any way. Heavy trigger and lots of personal discipline eliminates the need for a manual safety which can do more harm than good in an emergency. Lots of time practicing at the range means the heavy trigger will not impede me.

That's why people recommend revolvers as a good choice for first time handgun owners.

BTW-You really shouldn't carry a gun in your pocket. A holster is honestly the best way to carry a handgun on your person.

I'm surprised being the uber-soldat that you are you even carry a sidearm. Surely you will have killed them with your rifle long before they get close enough to need a pistol. Hell, they probably just die at the thought of you calling them a daft twat or something.

Everytime you say something (like claim you're a multi-millionaire, or that you can take military owned automatic weapons home in the UK or that you can shoot quarter sized shot groups at 700 yards with a 30-06) about yourself, it just gets more and more ridiculous.
