Ok.. ok.. I use Nextel. I have to admit that I like their family share plan (two phones on same plan, no additional charge and free PTT) but their customer service is about STUPID.

I was traveling abroad and called Nextel for international rates. They gave me rates, but told me my phone wouldn't work outside of the U.S. and that I needed to get the i930.

Ok, fine. My wife wanted me to buy her an i850 like mine, so I'll just give her my i850 and I'll buy the i950.

The guy tells me it'll be shipped via FedEx two day.

Two days later I get the phone. I install my SIM and upload all of my contacts. I switched the SIM's back, call support and tell them (take note)....

"I bought this i930 because I'm traveling abroad and needed iDen AND GSM support. Please help me activate this phone."

The lady gets my phone working, everything switched over, no problem.

I get on a plane and fly to Taiwan.

Service? No.

I send an email: "Hey guys... I'm in Taiwan with an i930 and have no service. What's up?"

No response.

Day two: No response.

Day three: Second email that states, "You guys suck. You tell me you have coverage in Taipei and tell me that I need to get this phone in order to have iDen and GSM support but it doesn't work. I emailed you two days ago and have received no response."

On day four I finally decide to CALL Nextel... FROM TAIWAN!!! FROM A HOTEL ROOM!!!! Take your shoes off to figure out how much that cost me.

In under a minute the guy figures out that my GSM isn't working because they didn't "turn on" international calling.

Oh? International calling? How much more does that cost?

NOTHING! It's just not turned on by default!

The guy turns it on in my account and within 30 seconds I have a signal and I'm told I have voicemails waiting.

So I call them and tell them that I'm travelling abroad, get rates, am told I need a different phone, buy the phone, activate the phone... but nobody EVER turns on the FREE International GSM access on my account?

Can I actually SUE someone for this????

Oh... and it's not 1.5 weeks since I sent my initial email to support and I still haven't received anything more than an automated response. :(

... How long have you been with Nextel? I've dealt with them for several years, and there's no way I'd roam abroad without calling them the day immediately prior to travelling to make sure it was going to work right. And then call the day of. And plan to call the day after I leave. :p

i think that's pretty standard. T-mobile is that way too if you want international roaming.

Weak rant. You didn't specifically ask to have international calling turned on, it's your fault. You also lose 6,000 points for wanting to sue someone for such a minor inconvenience, henceforth perpetuating the sue-happy American stereotype.

I see what you mean.. and that is true... but the fact is it's FREE to "enable" the international GSM and I told them the whole reason I bought/activated the phone was because I'm travelling outside of the U.S.

So what would the reason be for them to NOT turn on the international GSM capability when I activated the phone?

Oh... and I had Verizon before Nextel. Talk about crooks. Those guys will rob you any chance they get. I got "stuck" with them when they bought PrimeCo. The ONLY bad mark on my entire credit history is because of those jackasses and their screwed up billing software, so don't even go there.
