HAHAHA what a fvcking embarassing thing to do for a school. Absolutely pathetic. As a guy who skipped countless 8:30 classes due to lack of sleeping/caring, I can say with certainty that if you can't make your early class you deserve what sh*ty grades you get.

In the article they say the avg student gets 6-7 hours of sleep a night. I thought that was the recommended amount of sleep anyways?

I prefer early classes, because I like to be finished with my classes by noon, so I can have the rest of the day to do other things. Instead of wasting a 1/3 of the day(sleeping in the morning). I get 4-6 hours of sleep. Sometimes more on weekends.
Well then the students aren't coming, not because of the time, but because the class sucks :) I got 9 hours sleep last night and didn't want to wake up this morning, simply because I had to go to work. A couple of weeks ago I had 5 and woke up refreshed because I knew it was Saturday and I had fun things to do. 8:00 is NOT early.

I have to agree. My freshman and sophomore years I had classes at 7 or 8am all the time. My senior year in college I didn't have any classes that started before 10am. What a bunch of pansies though. College is all time management. Maybe I was better at it than others which is why I wasn't sleep deprived. Not only was I going to school for 16 credit hours, but I worked in RNS (resident network support) for 20-30 hours per week, and then add onto that my RA duties in the resident halls for 2 years.

Today's students got it easy. :)

You've gotta be freaking lazy if you can't make it to class by 8.

I'm in class ~6:30 every day, sometimes earlier, until 2pm. But then again I'm in an industry that actually expects employees to perform while at work.

I dont see how being sleep deprived makes any employee product regardless of the industry. Well unless you're testing mattresses.

6 hours of sleep is NOT sleep deprived. The article said the avg student gets 6-7 hours of sleep, down a hour and a half, since the '80s.

What school did you go to? Definitely the earliest class i've heard of.

Indeed, I usually take 18 credit hours in addition to working as a Community Assistant, some extracurriculars (tutoring, some editorial writing type stuff), and additional work duties. It can be really difficult for some people, though.

6:30??

Yup, attending the CIA. Classes are either AM or PM, AM from 6 or 630 depending on the block, all of them end at 2. The work ethic difference, grade difference, and dropout rate between AM and PM students is stark. Part of it is obviously environment, I can only stay out and close down the bar a couple nights a week where as PM can do it every night. But it also shows in attitude in general. I bet if you tracked our class 5 years after graduation a majority of individuals no longer in the industry were PM students.

Oh, man. See, I think I could really get used to classes that early, partly it's a matter of minimizing other distractions (Instant Messenger, video games), partly it's just self-discipline. Would be nice to have that kind of challenge.

Sounds like we were both in the same boat during college. My RA duties were a biatch at times. I would go to class, work, eat, class, then back to the resident halls to be on duty from 8pm-midnight 2-3 nights a week. Then, 2 weekends a month I would be on duty all weekend. On top of that, homework and more work.

It wasn't all work for me though. I always made time to involve myself in hockey games, nights out with friends, and so on. I also had a girlfriend (now wife) that I had since I started college. As you know, women require attention too. :)

That kind of schedule just prepared me more for the real world workforce though. Multitasking and time management are two strong points I have. :)
