It's been reported in the student paper today that she's alright. However, I have to imagine some sort of punishment will be handed out by the administration. Geez, talk about a situation that could have been a LOT worse.

BTW, I was at the NW game....had an AWESOME time!

How in the hell is that NSFW? Some of you guys are *really* uptight.

The ads on the page. Some of you guys are *really* oblivious.

Adblock Plus dude.

how and why are you bringing racism into this ...

Race as well as Social class strucuture played a large part in the Duke case. Read a in-depth analysis on this case and you would understand.

This thread has nothing to do with the Duke Lacrosse case.

And people here at PSU wonder why the state police are lined up in riot gear in the end zones after big games at Beaver Stadium. Yes, I wish it were plausible to rush the field and enjoy oneself after a big one; however, all you need is 1 fan to get hurt (and really, with even a few hundred or thousand fans rushing it wouldn't be that hard to be trampled) and then you've got a pretty serious issue for the university. As you can imagine, all a fan needs to do is do something against the rules (like climb the rails and rush the field) and then get himself hurt, and then bam, lawsuit and responsibility for the university. It's a shame things are like that, but they are. Somewhat frustrating when you hear nothing from the students but whining when rushing the field isn't condoned.

Don't bother watching this video. I just wasted five and a half minutes to save you guys the hassle. The fall happens in the last 15 seconds and you don't see the girl getting hit.

I didn't watch the video but was this girl who got hurt black. If so you know how much of a BIG deal many black leaders will make of this. Later to find out it was a true accident.

She was Indian.

Wow, talk about misplaced animosity toward black people.

It's not animosity. It's the way this world works. Certain groups get preferential treatment and that is a fact of life.... And among other things thats exactly what happened in the duke case.

You are a fucking idiot.

Lack of a brain probably.
Horray! Their winning justifies my otherwise entirely meaningless existence! I don't have to kill myself now!!! Yay! They mean absolutely everything to me, without a bunch of guys playing a game, I would have no reason to live!!!!

Something like that, perhaps?:D

People enjoy the camaraderie that a huge sports victory elicits.

Reasons why this is the lamest goalpost tear-down in history:

a) The game was played in Illinois. The goalpost in question was ripped out of an empty Duke stadium.
b) They beat Northwestern.

You came into this thread admittedly not knowing the race of the person who got hurt, and you made and accusatory comment about black leaders.

I'm at WORK. It's Not Safe For WORK. My IT department locks down the machines here. I have no rights to install anything and my IT department doesn't like anything that doesn't come from a big bright sparkly retail store or have a massive international corporation behind it.

Excuse me, sir, but how does your comment intelligently reinforce or discredit his statement? If you're just going to fling insults, please find another thread to do it in. We're having a civilized discussion here. Please don't ruin it.

More on subject:

This happened at my college too when I was an undergrad. The fans stormed the field (not usually a big deal after a big win), but then they pulled down the goalposts and somewhere during the process of tearing them down/carrying them to the river to throw them in, a girl got hit on the head and was paralyzed.

The university ended up paying her a couple million dollars I think. It was sort of hushed up around campus but I read an article about it in the paper a year or so ago.

Anymore they keep pretty heavy security near the goalposts for big games. Some colleges even have special collapsible goalposts that they lay down after a big victory so there's nothing for the fans to tear down.

They ended the nation's longest losing streak, I think 22 games.

Some countries have suicide bombers fighting for their religious beliefs....we have drunken college students who are paying 30k a year to rip down goal posts on "unexpected" bystanders.

Who's nuttier?

ok ok. Poor joke.
