First, I'm curious if anyone knows which unreal engine they are currently working on. I thought I heard they were using unreal2, but by now it seems they should be working on unreal3 if anything.

Second, some jokes in their forums got me thinking. One guy said that as much as Longhorn has been delayed, they could bundle DNF with it. Another guy said that with the given history, Longhorn will be out long before 3Drealms releases anything on windows. At first I laughed. But then I thought, wasn't manhattan project for windows? I never played it... Still have the original Duke though, and used to have another game that had him in it, Death Rally which I miss soooo much.

Let's just put it this way: Duke Nukem Forever is being bundled with Glaze3d video cards.

Manhattan Project wasn't exactly a 3DRealms game; another company that licensed the Duke Nukem name made it, or something like that. Did you actually think that 3DR had released a game since 1997? :p

It's getting pretty sad though...it's been four years since we've seen the last new screenshots and promo vids of Duke Forever, yet they claim they're still working on it. If it's not out by one year from now (10 years after the release of Duke 3D), I'll have lost all faith in them (and most people already have). Duke3D was my favorite game, once upon a time. That time was when I was 12 years old. I'm going to be 21 this year....

Edit: To my knowledge they're still using Unreal Engine 2 (UT2003/UT2004/Unreal II level stuff). If it's taken them this long so far, how many more years would it take for them to start from scratch again on a new engine?

Every 3 years they'll just start over with a new engine. U3, U4, U5 .....

I loved the joke about NASA planning, building, launching, and landing the Mars Rovers in the time we've been waiting for DNF, but I haven't checked NASA.gov to see if it's true.

Manhattan was a 3rd-party game, and just a 2D side-scroller.

Hrm, this this question does come up every now and then.

There is a forum I regular that George B, posts on. This is what we've been able to get out of him.

- The game is still in development. It is not vaporware.
- The game looks nothing like the E3 2001 video. Completely different now.
- No one outside of 3D Realms has seen the game.
- They're using the latest unreal tech (not unreal 3) in production. Apparently, the way the tech works, its easy to upgrade the engine modules.
- Havok engine is in, or something to its equivellant.
- George has appologized, and stated that they made some pretty big mistakes in developement, and it ahs cost them hence the 6 year production cylcle.
- Movies, previews, and screens will be released most likely 6 months before the games release.

I cannot re-produce posts from george, or promise any of this is fact. You'll just have to trust me. I beleive george, and I think we will see the game towards the end of this year and sooner. But then again, I could be very wrong :) Take it all with a grain of salt my friends.

Oh, also....one last thing. When asked what he thought of HL2? "Clearly, the best FPS to date". Not releated in any ways, just thought it was interesitng.
