Dug/the other aussie(s)...

I have family there and have set in motion the process of migrating there. Thing is, in London, there's a shed-load of aussies who come to live in the UK despite the crappy weather, chavs, government giving all it's money to people who don't want to work for a living, etc etc.

Would you reccomend living in aus? I loved it when I went, love the space, the sun, beer, the scuba and I like BBQ's with shrimps. In my opinion, the only bad things about aus is the hit in pay that I'm going to earn, plus the fact that every animal/insect begins with 'the giant australian...' and kills you. Apart from that it looks awesome. For £80K (what buys you a studio flat where I live) you can buy a two bedroomed apartment in brisbane with a shared pool and 10 mins from the sea.

What do you think? You feel like migrating?

I love it. Lived all over (grew up the the Solomon Islands, went to boarding school in Scotland, lived in Kenya & the Philippines, then went to boarding school in WA, @uni in WA now). The weather, the people, the open space (i love having a 50km world class white sand beach all to yourself), the fishing, scuba all rocks

Tax sucks, but that is all i can think of...great welfare, cheap (relatively) and excellent tertiary education into the bargain

(im a bas*ard yanky though, i hear other countries don't like it when americans move in)

are the wild life that much of a threat, as far as the killer toads and insects, box jelly fish?

and even though most of Australia is desert its the east coast that has most of the people right?

I'm thinking of moving to Brisbane... seems like a decent place, near to noosa and apparantly with the better climate. My uncle lives there, too.

Wasn't such a fan of the captial, was kinda dull. Syndey rocked.

Not so sure about the cars in aus though... they are a little bit uh... american. I like the Carlton or whatever it is. The fat muscle car built by Vauxhall that's cheap as chips but has balls the size of small countries.

We ALL live on the coast really, water is a pretty serious constraint inland (the town i'm from has a bitumemised area about the size of maybe 8 football (whatver you play ) ovals to catch rain). Most people do live on the East Coast, but WA is the economic powerhouse of the country (and one of the world's largest resources producers)

The dangerous stuff is totally talked up, we have loads of redbacks around this house, and every house my folks have ever lived in (at my folks place i have a huge jar of meths that i keep dead redbacks in), but none of us, and very few people i know, have ever been bitten

Lovely city, altho it has got pretty busy in the last five years. Take a look at Perth mate, perfect climate, booming economy, city is still like a big country town

i didn't know if any other countries were like that

for all i know my dad could be wrong about canada too

I just got back from two weeks in Australia and have to say I've never felt so welcome as an American overseas (and I do a fair amount of International travel.) A week was in Canberra, not the most exciting place in the world but I did get down to Bateman's Bay then spent the rest of the time in Sydney. It was my first time in Australia and I was really taken by the wide open space everywhere, quite a nice change from the Washington DC area where anything larger than a manhole cover has been or will soon be covered by cheap townhouses.

Only downer was a minor blue bottle(?) jellyfish sting at Manly beach, then again I was tended by two lasses who fairly insisted on staying with me the rest of the afternoon so it wasn't all bad

Great food, expensive cigars and on whole the finest looking women I've seen anywhere in the world.
