Duel channel ram

My motherboard doesn't accept 3 sticks of ram. So I had to take out 2 sticks of 256 and leave the 512 in. But if I get another slice of 512 it will work as duel channel right?

It should, but you might want to try to find the same kind of RAM or it may very well not operate in dual channel.

I had 2 stick of mismatched brand in daulk channel and it ran fine most of the time but got strange errors in wondows every so often changing to matching brand speed sticks fixed it.

du·el n.

1. A prearranged, formal combat between two persons, usually fought to settle a point of honor.
2. A struggle for domination between two contending persons, groups, or ideas.

du·al adj.

1. Composed of two usually like or complementary parts; double: dual controls for pilot and copilot; a car with dual exhaust pipes, or dual channel RAM!!

2. Having a double character or purpose: a belief in the dual nature of reality.

I have now a 512mb kingston ddr 400 value ram. so if I get another stick it should work right? and what do you mean by kind? brand?

How does dual channel work? I just insert the sticks into the slot and they will work automatically?

The duel channel isn't working. When ever I inserted the 2 sticks the computer won't boot. I had to insert the 2 sticks into slot number 1 and 3 instead of 1 and 2. Now it only works as single channel.
