DOes anyone know if the newest bunch of celerons work with the Abit BP6 duel celery board? I need a cheap duel workstation. Please if you have any suggestions I would be glad to hear it. Also any other ideas for mobos?
thanks

the Celeron 2 is not SMP or dual capabale at all.
The fast dual celeron you can get is the c600 I believe..

ohh if you want a cheap worstation NOX is selling a nice one for 950 + shipping in the FS/FT forum

I wanted a dual celeron system for a long time, but with the cheap xeon processors floating around why go with celerons when you can have xeons for the same price range?

And yes guys, I'm still waiting on a few components... (for those of you following my old xeon thread)

Just get the BP6 with 2 366@550 Celeries. I had that setup and it rocks! There is a newer board out...the VP6 I think. I've not read the details on it yet, but for 'cheap' you couldn't go wrong with the BP6 setup.

The fastest (non-overclocked) classic Celeron made was the 533... and the BP6 can only run classics in dual.

superfreaky is right, the 533 is the fastest non overclocked ppga celery, still a option for what might be more of the question.

you can always try for Dual 533s at 800Mhz ;) Hehehe yeah not likely...

Stick with the BP6 over the VP6, the VP6 is Via apollo Pro 133A dual...the BX is a better chipset unless you need 133Mhz FSB (which you don't with cellys).

But yeah Celeron 533A, and 566+ are not SMP capable and unfortunately the classic 533s aren't superbly overclockable that I know of.

What programs are you runing that you need a Dual system for. I used to run a BP6 workstation 366's at 550. I then upgraded to a Celeron 633@789 in the bp6 board. It was faster than the 2-550's. Then I bought a kt7-raid, even at 600mhz the AMD Duron kicked the crap out of the celeron 789. If you need a dual system, and can wait a few months, the price/performance of AMD is outstanding. If you need one now, I would go for an Abit VP6 with 2 slower p3's if your looking to save $$$.

2 x 1.1Ghz "sometime" in the future? What's to get all hot & bothered
about?

You can get a Supermicro MB right now that supports 2 x PIII 933/133.
And 2 x 933 in the hear-and-now sure beats 2 x 1100 sometime in
the future we hope...

Dual Celerons remind me of two Geo Metros strapped together trying to push a boat (Geo Metros don't have a latch, so all they can do is push) :p
