hey im new to the forum but here is my prob. I just finished building my new comp.
it has
PSU:enermax 600w
CASE:cooler masters:wave master
CPU: AMD FX-55
MOBO:ASUS AN8-SLI del
VIDEO CARD:2x EVGA6800 ultra
HDD:western digital 120gig
HDD2 300gig SATA maxtor
MEMORY 2xCorsair 512 latency 2-2-2-5
ok now when i i play DOOM 3 it freezes the whole computer after like walking around for a few second but when i run it in single card mode everything is fine so i was wondering if anyone with an SLI setup has had any problems with doom 3? if so how did you fix the problem.

oh if i posted in the wrong place sorry.

turn off fast-writes? strange that thsoe wouldn't cause a problem with 1 card but might be with 2. also try what the others before have said.

GT Ultra's, huh? Wow, you must have bugged Nvidia pretty hard to get them to give you custom cards.

GT and Ultra are two different speed grades, there is no such thing as a GT Ultra.

Edit, are you using the latest drivers? Did you connect all the power connectors to the cards properly? Do you have the cards sharing one power rail? Did you properly configure the motherboard for SLI operation by flipping the bridge card?

Its probably beating the pants off Doom3 so badly that Doom3 doesn't want to play any more so it shuts down. LOL, nice though, dual 6800 ultras.

yeah i did the SLI card first. no the cards are on differnet power rails because my power supply cam with the connecters but one doesnt fit so i had to use the ones that came with the cards.im using beta drivers.

What he means is do you have both cards running of the same power cable coming from your PSU, ideally you should use separate power cable lines for each card with little or nothing else on those same rails.

Could it be your bridge is messed up? Kind of sucks to have a $1000 setup that is having problems playing it's native game.

THATS ONE FRIGGEN MONSTER SETUP YOU GOT THERE : :Q

I would try updating the GPU and Mobo Bios to the latest version... could be a patch for it.

Also run the patch updates for Doom3...mabe it needs some updates also.

Is this on ONLY DOOM or other games as well?

Try turning off fast writes in the BIOS. This plagued many of the earlier GT's and Ultra's above 400 Mhz on the core. I donno if they still have the problem but might as well try it out.

i found out it happens on other games today. but ill try out the fast write. i also found out when i put windows on to the master HD the HD was set to Slave do you think that would be causing the problem?

Have you install the divers twice. you need to install them twice once for each card to use.

Not on my 9600 Pro, or any other ATI card I've ever used, you don't.
nVIDIA cards should be, from memory, exactly the same.

The only time you'd "load the drivers twice" is if you're loading them by hand in Device Manager.
