I imagine widespread FIOS would make torrenting even more phenomenal.

There are too many flaws with bittorrent to make it that successful. It still isn't mainstream and probably never will be.

Topic Summary: for $23 a month

Why so shocked??? 😕 This normal for many parts of the world now.

The U.S. is no longer the technology leader. Not for a long time now. Enjoy

20 Mbps has been entry level in Korea for quite some time, and is available to over 80% of the population. 100 Mbps (or thereabouts) is a premium option.

In other countries, like Hong Kong, Gigabit broadband has been available for home use since last year.

It's true, and for the same reason that Europe has such an extensive rail system. Population density allows for it.

Yeah I brought my computer over there and my dad got me a $20 connection and I was uploading to my friends and blazing speeds. I was very suprised.

no....not having to update an old and atered system and starting frm scratch with the best and brightest is what allows for it....

Hong Kong is not a country

Yes. Actually I travelled to korea this winter and even hotel has 100mbps connection. If you download, it goes upto 8000kb/s(80mbps) at my laptop.
I was downloading linux iso file, and it only took me less than 2min to download 500mb file.
Uploading was about 5000kb/s(50mbps)
Really liked it.

But it seems like they dont have wifi... 🙁
