I agree, canon rocks.. Sony wouldn't be too bad, but the proprietary memory really sours the deal for me.

i know someone that has the cannon a70, and i showed him my new sony dsc-p100 and he was amazed. i personally find the dsc-p100 really good, i got it for $300 through dell, after a few coupons. but otherwise get the a80.
Well, where's the shots? There ain't no lernin' curve, 'cause it's truly a point & shoot camera. My son just took this one last week. Pretty typical.Originally posted by: dudeguy
ok I got the V1 in the end.

Here's a battery for it. You'll need at least a couple. Keep your eye out for rebates on memory sticks. You just missed a couple $15.00 ones. In the mean time, if you can't wait, this ain't so bad.

how do you like the P-100? i was gonna get it but it lacked some of the advanced features i like to use.
i really wished the W-1 came with more advanced features.
This is typical of people who are used to SLRs. My son is doing the same thing, apparently because he has an "artist's eye". He keeps trying to shoot without the flash. I understand wanting to capture the image in natural light, but it takes a whole lot more skill, and time than most people are willing to invest. The most time consuming thing, is mounting it on a tripod. Nobody wants to bother with that! Also, you have to lock the exposure on your subject, in the case of a back lit scene like your second image. That shot probably would have required a half second, instead of the 1/30th it shot at.Originally posted by: dudeguy
hi ornery.
thansk for the mem stick link, ill get one, just im in the uk, so ill have to check it all out at some point.
the camera is great, a little bulkier than expected but its got a bigger zoom i guess. i nearly went for the olympus c50, but it doesnt have manual focus, and since my bro and dad do sport i wanted to be able to focus onthe mid-distance and get them as they go past. for instance i tried taking a pic of the sunset last night from my room window. the lcd has a zoom on it, so when i zoomed in to see if the horizon and clouds were in focus, i discovered that the dirt on the window was in focus and the horison was a blur!!!
pixmania screwed up the next day shipping, and my dsl was down yesterday evening, so i only got a chance to post this tonite!
any way i am going to edinburgh at the weekend, my sis is in the fringe, my mom is there, and i went to uni there and im crashing with a couple of friends, so ill post some pics. can someone suggest a pic host that has a thnmbnail gallery for what i put on it?
cheers dude! good recommendation
living room ceiling, no flash, about 1mpixel
my flatmates in the kitchen on about 1m pixels, no flash
