Got the deal due to 34% off discount that Dell gives my company.

Graphics card has dual DVI which is good enough for me.

I'm lookin mostly to do web and graphics development while running multiple VMware machines to help check different OS and broswers for my websites' compatibility.

Of course, I might have to fire up a game or two as well ;)

Doesn't seem that hot to me either. Not with the Intel Core 2 Duo chips out now anyway.

No, dell starting using AMD processors a while back when Intel started getting hit with monopoly lawsuits.

Dell was implementing selling them, they haven't been selling them until very recently.

They started offering Opteron servers earlier this year, but this is the first I have heard about them using Athlon desktops.

Thanks :) I'm excited! I'm upgrading from a Barton 2500+ with 1 gig of RAM. Should be a big difference. I also have a line on a Nvidia 7600 for about $50 which I'm going to throw in there. Should be a big step up :)

I take it you haven't noticed RAM prices lately?

Still...doesn't AM2 need DDR2-800 just to match old socket939 stuff? Not saying this still isn't a good deal, its just when I was looking at this stuff this morning I was kind of disappointed they didn't offer faster ram as at least an optional upgrade.

Intel still has the fastest stuff right now. But given Dell probably moves way WAY more low end machines, and the AMD machines having a signifigant cost advantage AMD should at least be able to compete fairly well with them.
