Silly Rabbit! They didn't make PIII 400s...hehe...they didn't start making PIII anything until the 450s. :D
Sounds like you've got some good new systems. You should sell your old servers in the paper or set them up running Red Hat. Get us a good CounterStrike server farm going or something....

Pulled em off the truck eh?

So they just "fell off the back" right? Isn't that right, Vinny? Tell the nice officer the story about how they fell off and broke. :D

You couldn't somehow "lose" one and set it up as a dedicated game server for your AT pals, could you? :D

Wow... I'm guessing that you didn't buy them all for yourself and it's for some company. Those sound very expensive.

What a waste. :frown:

why is it a waste? I have been running W2K advanced server in my farm for over a year and have had not one problem. No blue screens, no lock ups, no silly crap that NT did that nobody could explain. I have been very impressed with the stability of W2K server. Down time is not tolerated here. What would you suggest for an OS platform to run a 205GB SQL db on?

Install SQL Server Enterprise Edition and cluster those bad boys!

Cluster failover is a wonderful thing. And with the advent of .NET server you'll be able to get six way clustering.

You must not install any security updates or service packs then. Any update to windows requires a reboot. Of course, you probably have load balancing and redundant servers, so if done one at a time that wouldn't really matter...

Linux. I doubt you'd ever consider going back to MS SQL after seeing just what Postgre, mySQL and Oracle running on Linux can do. :)

EDIT: I have no personal experience with databases. One thing's for sure though, a Linux DB is a helluva lot less expensive, and would perform at least as well as MS's products. :)

Not bad at all. However, we will need pics in the following order:

From the freight carrier
To your door
Setup
Install
Fully operating

Ummmm have you seen what MS SQL Enterprise can do? Oracle is just as good and switching OS's and DB's is not an option. It would cost the company Millions for recoding plus the chance of loosing our customers because it would take years to migrate and fix bugs.... Trust me, it was a nightmare moving from Novell.

on a side note. all of our web stuff run on Sun sytems...

No offense, but isn't that like me saying that once you've flown a GV (gulfstream 5 business jet) you'll never go back to a Leer Jet again, even though I've had no experience flying either of them?

Our Win2k adv servers are rock solid :D
