Look for a program called CPUcool or CPUfsb, do a search on google and try that.

Try a proggy named CPUFSB, it would allow you to change your FSB directly from windows, in real-time... It's very good, I've used in a couple of compaq systems that had no FSB option in the bios and worked flawlesly.

You can get it at www.betanews.com instructions are included.

If you don't work too much with graphics or do not game a lot, a videocard won't be a good upgrade.
More than 384mb RAM would give you extra performance if you really use more than 384mb RAM, In my own experience I've never been able to use more than 384RAM unless I'm running a game or working with huge pictures in Photoshop.

it's my understanding that softFSB and similar programs only give you the options that are already in your bios. it just makes it handy since you don't have to reboot to change something. if your bios has no options then you are stuck.

i just got this system because i thought it was a great deal. all this for $377 including tax and shipping
Intel 845 mobo
P4 1.6 Ghz
GEForce2 64 mb video card
Maxtor 40 GB 7200 rpm HD
128 mb DDR ram (upgraded to 384, had 1 256 chip)
Microsoft Explorer 3.0 mouse
NIC
56K
8x cd-Rw drive (sold for $35, had 24x with me, net price: $342)
dont forget 6 months of AOHell (sold for $40, net price $302)
Harmon Kardon speakers (anyone wants them ??, still brand new in box, never used)

so for $300, i just couldnt resist getting it, LOL.

now, just trying to get some more bang out of my buck by overclocking it.

btw, tried CPUCool, SoftFSB, CPUFSB, none of them works for this Intel 845 mobo. Only intel mobo they work for are the 44x and 815. (guess these programs dont support P4)

ah well, will just keep looking or might ebay this system and build one of my own but for ~$350, can i build a similar system including all tax and shipping ?

I mean a nice case, a P4 system and nice video card and Hard Drive. I really need help in getting the best deals. Can someone just post from where i can buy things from.
I am leaning towards the P4 1.6a due to its overclocking capabilities. So, help me find a nice mobo.

I dont need any CD-rom or DVD-rom drives. I also have a spare Sound card (SB Live). i have them lying spare with me.
i will need the following for a new system:

a nice durable cheap case (that can efficiently handle all the load)
mobo and processor + fan (should support DDR if not rambus)
Ram
Hard Drive
Video Card
NIC
Anything else that i might need ?

I am leaning towards the following components for the following price:

Gigabye GA-8IXP mobo - $142 + $10 s&h = $152 (newegg.com)
Retail Intel P4 1.6a - $133 (newegg.com)
Antec SX1030 case w/ 300w psu = $85 (tcwo.com)

got the memory, video card, sound card and drives.

How does that deal above sounds ? can i get a compartive stuff for cheaper somewhere else ?

Dude you got a sweet computer for the price you paid, and if its only hanging a little bit when you do graphics, i would say maybe just upgrade your RAM, Do you have a 7200rpm dirve?

yeah, the HD in the DELL is a 7200 rpm. but the performance is still not very good when i compare it with my old PIII 750 mhz system.

i am wondering, if i sell this one for ~600 on ebay.

i can get all the new parts for ~550 (calculated everything)
a better processor, a better mobo, a better video card....raid...usb 2.0.....and it will not be a DELL

so for the same price, i will be building the same system. i mean i will sell for 600 and get a new one for 600, so nothing more outta my pocket.

Unfortuanately if you want to overclock you'll need a different board, the 1.6 "willy " that youve got will overclock , I just sold a system with one on it and with the Ga 8irxp had it O/C to 2 gig, however it will never O/C as good as the northwood.Good Luck
