when i was in the air force the chow hall served chitlins on Thursdays. They didnt even looked cooked, in fact they looked just like they were pulled from a pig preserved in femaldhyde (sp) and served. the only people i saw eating those nasty things were the black troops. Yuck!

for an american dish, cow tounge is pretty discusting.

My new g/f is Chinese and she took me to some "homestyle cookin" restaurant tonight. I guess she figured as a beloved patriot I'd recoil from eating the "real" stuff.... honey, after 11 years in the army and eating whatever the locals shot that night during overseas deployments, there ain't nothing you can serve I can't or won't eat. Yes, the server did look at me like I was a barbarian and surprised as hell when I ordered the tongues (in Chinese no less), but c'est la vie.

Next time I'm going to return the favor and serve her all the unusual American foods... chitlins, scrapple, etc.... any suggestions for truly off the wall American cuisine?

Gross!!!

theres actually a few chinese dishes that are made out of intestine, and they're actually quite tasty.

Intestine was on the menu also, along with beef tendons and a few other specialties.

The idea of chitlins is so incredibly disgusting, I almost can't believe it's a "dish".

If it's good for the American Idol, it's good for some people.

Chinese eat tripe.

One bad oysters while shucking can ruin you from eating oysters for life.

But if she's Chinese Chinese (i.e. not an ABC) than American sweets will do. Asian sweets are nowhere near as sugar loaded as American desserts.

No offense to Asians, because I don't consider this an insult, but finding things some of them won't eat is a tall order.
