I don't feel like going through 17 pages of bitching.

Has anyone even addressed the fact that he said black people were singing a happy tune back when they were working the fields, before all of that civil rights stuff that made them dependent on welfare?

He spoke about HIS experience. He never claimed or implied that his experience was true of ALL black people.

QFT, I don't know where Phil was coming from with that statement except for a person I knew that grew up with his family owning 'happy' slaves.

They weren't beaten, they were well fed, mother's got time off to have their kids and it was looked upon as an investment (healthy babies grew up better and made better workers), the slaves were included in holidays at times, sometimes their birthdays were celebrated, when they grew too old to work they were given lesser duties, etc.

He learned that the 'slave' could be just as smart and sometimes even smarter than some owners/family. Their big limitation was they weren't given education.

I don't believe in Slavery, but when it was outlawed it messed up some slaves actually happy livelihood.

I'd sure like for some of those "happy slaves" to come forward and confirm that.

So when they couldn't own slaves anymore the family just tossed them out like trash instead of paying them a bit?

Yeah, an inbred redneck's anecdotal tale is "truth".

No, not interested.

Dude, are you on crack? The man clearly tells it as it is:

"Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I'm with the blacks, because we're white trash," he said. "They're singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word!... Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.”

You don't want to take a white man's word on what a black slave, someone who could be beaten, tortured or lynched for as much as looking at a white person the wrong way, said to him about other white people? What the hell man.

You may want to google 'history of slavery' or something. I don't think this dude is 150 years old.

And judging by that comment (fuck me if I'm gonna read all this bullshit about some retarded reality TV show), he's just a typical old white person. Don't even need a 'southern' qualifier. I had grandparents from Indiana that would talk about 'that nice ****** boy down the street' or some shit.

Bottom line, I think people are seeing venomous hate in his comments, and it ain't there. Best solution: quit giving such a fuck about what some random jackass says about random things.

well.. damn... instead of hoeing cotton in the fields.. they were brought inside to serve drinks...

arent they just WONDERFUL people 🙄

Wow, free food, shelter, and healthcare regardless of your physical ability or job importance.

Sounds like a liberal utopia.

So not being beaten is the pinnacle of achievement in one's life. That's obviously a problem.

Haha... I'm also a bit confused as to why these people are talking about slavery like the duck guy is the goddamn Highlander. :hmm: Sheesh! I mean... who doesn't remember this image from your high school text books?

You fail to realize at the time this was going down, a black person (especially a black woman) could not find a paying job, own property, etc.

Slavery in the beginning was their only option.

Not all 'masters' were tyrants. Some slaves were treated just like family outside of having duties they were expected to complete each day/season.

Again, I don't agree with slavery and personally I am glad it was abolished. However; for many slaves that put them permanently out of work.

By you saying 'old white people' are guilty of all this is no different than people putting down black people for being black.

Not all people are spineless cowards. Many slaves did speak up.

Women were in the same boat and they would risk speaking out of turn if being oppressed.

You got to figure what Phil was talking about is they were in the same boat. He was a workerbee probably getting paid worse when you had to factor he had to provide his own food/shelter on a pittance of a wage. The slave went to at least some type of shelter and was fed.

I guess you don't know when slavery was abolished in the US?

Damn there's a whole lot of stupid in this thread. And racism.
