DualShock3/ShockAxis/etc

Well, apparently the Japanese Official PlayStation Magazine has made mention that Metal Gear Solid 4 will use the rumble tech of the new controller to be revealed at Leipzig Gaming Conference. GC starts on the 23rd, so here's to hoping the information is true and a new PS3 controller will be revealed at GC. 🙂

too bad none of the games that are out now will take advantage of this ...

they should scrap the six axis crap and just put rumble in there instead.

So much for Sony saying that Rumble is a last gen feature. Looks like the lawsuit was settled.

In their defense, this new rumble is supposed to behave completely different from the old one.

which I am hoping they are including that new rumble tech.. supposed to have a lot more variations to the vibration patterns, and able to handle multiple patterns at once (for instance, a low rumble of a car engine, and an added rumble when driving over rough terrain or hitting a wall).

I'm intrigued, if they can give more depth to rumble I'm all ears.

That sounds interesting -- for example low rumble from an engine, then sharper jolts from weapons fire at the same time.

I wasn't too impressed by the simpler on-off rumble but I've only played a couple of games that had it so I probably just haven't felt it "done right."

I'm all for Sony reinventing the rumble in a good way. I thought the original Dual Shock controller was highly innovative (much better than the N64 rumble pack for sure), but we've gotten too used to the design. It's time for something new and better.

If this is true it may actually make me care about a rumble feature.

Before it's always felt tacked on and cheesy to me.

well probably won't be hearing about this new controller for some time. But it looks like it is bound to be announced sometime in October, matching the release of GT5 Prologue. In all likelihood, it'll probably be launched day-and-date with GT5😛. So it'll probably be announced early October, as someone on the official PS forums made a good point: they have all the stock of the current controller to clear out. So why announce now, which would basically completely stop a good amount of the current SixAxis sales, when you can get people to buy them now, and then announce later and they might just buy that too. But it could work either way, as if its announced ahead of time, there could be a lot of sales for the new controller. hmm wonder what Sony will do with this one.
