DualShock 3 vs Xbox 360 Controller?

The 360 controller has a terrible D-pad, and I wish the ABXY buttons were concave, but aside from that it's probably the best controller design ever.

I've found that people who prefer the Sony one either do so simply because it is so familiar (as it hasn't changed much since the PSX days) - or have tiny hands. To be completely stereotypical, it's generally Asian people who love the PS controller.

I love the current xbox360 controller (I own a ps3 only)

I have yet to try the dualshock3, but I assume it will feel exactly like the dualshock2 heavy and bleh

My hands cramp up in 20 minutes trying to use both d-sticks on the dualshock. Haven't tried the PS3 version, but the PS2 ones were garbage for me, and the new ones look very similar.
With the exception of the d-pad(which isn't a primary control for any game I play anyways), the 360 controller and the old big XBox1 controller were perfect for me.

I love the 360 controller best, although it has THE worst d-pad design history, thanks to Nintendo and Sony buying up all the patents on a good d-pad design.

I'm one of the few who really like the DS3 controller. The design just works for me. I guess I have mutated hands or something.

The 360 controller is okay, but it doesn't fit that well and it feels kind heavy to me. However, it's a big improvement over the original Xbox controller.

The only controller that really bugs me of this generation is the Classic controller for the Wii, if that even counts. I can't use the damn thing for anything.

The 360 except for the dpad. The DS3 would have been much nicer if they had swtiched the left analog and dpad. For full disclosure I should mention that I actually like the layout of the Wii classic controller for VC games.

I don't know why Sony doesn't change their design. It'd be like if Nintendo was still using the N64 controller..it's just outdated.

The N64 controller was horribly unergonomic for me. The playstation controller is a solid design I think. I have fairly large hands and I don't have too much trouble holding it. I prefer the size of the 360 controller, but I like the weight and d-pad of the playstation controller. They're both very good.

I've used both. 360 controller by a friggin longshot. Sony's design is now outdated. I used to like it, but now...bleh.

I don't get why everyone says the PS3 controller design is "outdated". Sure, they didn't go with the whole d-pad and analog stick switch, but that's a mere choice. If you liked the controller is the past, why wouldn't like it now? Did your hand morph to fit only the "current" controller styles?

Because, basically, there are very few games that only work well with the DS3 layout, and there are tons that only work well with the 360 layout (FPS games coming to mind, RTS as secondary).

DS3 for me

Though it is all because the DPad on the 360 sucks.

I still like to use the dpad in some games, but I can't do it on 360, I am forced to use the analog stick.

So DS3 is my pick because it works for both types.

360 controller for me. D-Pad is the suck but then, I'd never play a fighting game without an arcade stick anyway.

360 controller. I can't wait for those D-pad patents to run their course so MS can put a good D-pad on their controllers.

My preference is the 360 controller. I've gone into detail in the past, but I can sum up most of it with one word - concave. The shape of the handles is much more ergonomic as well. The d-pad sucks, but that's pretty much the only mark against it. I'd play my PS3 more and probably buy more PS3 games if I could buy a good approximation of the Xbox 360 controller that works with the PS3. I tried the Nyko Zero, and it failed.

I think they both work really well, but prefer the 360 controller if choosing between them.

The perfect controller, to me, would be the 360 controller, with the PS3's analog sticks and d-pad. I honestly don't know whether or not the positioning of the analog sticks on the 360's controller is truly better, because I hate the sticks. I also can't tell if its because the sticks are concave or not, but the sticks suck hardcore. Limited range of motion, slow, etc etc... I love the PS3's analog sticks, because they have a wide range of motion, and can be fast yet still allow for precise control. I have a few gripes for both controllers, and really prefer neither: I'm a mouse guy for precision, but I do like controllers for actions, as keyboards can be too much in a dark room, whereas controllers are easy to hit the right button.

depends what game you are playing.

FPS i'll take 360 controller any day. i'd take ps3 any day for a fighter.

games that don't require analog primarily i would probably prefer the 360 one in general to the ps3 one.

however the face buttons on the 360 feel a little "soft" compared to the ps3 controller.

for instance, i don't think i'd like playing hot shots golf, pressing X on the ps3 to set impact seems like that if i had to press A on the 360 controller, it wouldn't be as precise because of the softness of the buttons on the 360 controller. i may not be explaining that very well but it's kind of hard to put into words and is more of a "feel" type thing.

I like the DS3 because of sixaxis. I think the more subtle use of motion sensing is awesome.

I played with the 360 controller a few times and just found it to be a clumsy monstrosity. I much prefer the DS3.

The RX/LX is better on the 360 controller. Rumble seemed stronger on the 360 controller as well. There is something clumsy about it though. DS3 seems more precise. Ideally, a controller with the 360's Rx/Lx buttons, taller R3, 360 shell sturdiness and DS3 precision and button placement would be ideal. But as they are, I guess I prefer the DS3.
