Dualshock 3 VS SIXAXIS

Now that they've discontinued the SIXAXIS, I guess we have to get a Dualshock 3 in order to experience games as they were intended.

I've read some comparisons between the two controllers online and basically I find that everything is just as they say. It's heavier, the color of it is opaque instead of translucent, and it feels studier because it doesn't creak.

I remember the original PSX controllers, before the first Dualshock. They were so light. I don't think I've ever really appreciated Dualshock controllers. I though they were too bulky and heavy, and I longed for the original lightweight controller. So of course I was glad with how light the SIXAXIS was.

But now I hold the Dualshock 3 in my hands. Although there is something nostalgic about the creakiness of the SIXAXIS, I can't deny how good Dualshock 3 feels in my hands - SOLID. Playing Devil May Cry 4 with rumble on brought back some memories of the days of old.

What do you mean by creaky? And which part is opaque vs. translucent? I have a DS3 and a sixaxis and they look identical (though I never pay attention to these things).

Some older PS3 games (Resistance definitely, Uncharted, I think Motorstorm but I'm not sure) have rumble. For some games they coded for rumble even when it wasn't there. For other games they patched it in later.

If you squeeze the SIXAXIS too hard or try to twist it, it will creak. The color of the SIXAXIS controller is black, but it is slightly translucent. The DS3 is opaque.

I assume the earlier games didn't support rumble at release. Here is a list of those that do.

There may be other lists, just search google.

I much prefer the DualShock 3 controller.

Some earlier games support it

This is a bit of a tangent, as I don't own a PS3, but I recently turned on my PS2 to try out Fire Pro Wrestling and it appears the PS3 controller is exactly the same so I suppose it fits.

Why isn't the left analog stick where the D-pad currently is? How is that not yet the standard? The controller is definitely designed for little asian hands.

Being part "Asian" I find this offensive! :|

I'm guessing VIAN means the Sixaxis is glossier than the Dualshock, which is just matte black. Both are opaque and neither are transluscent.

When the sixaxis is on, turn it over and you will see the red light showing through the back.

No, I mean what I said. Both are NOT opaque.

Sorry. Your statement was a bit ambiguous. I asked which part was translucent and you didn't specify. That seems like such a minute difference that I don't know how people would notice it unless they were told about it.

My brother noticed it a few months ago, and then told me. You only thought my statement was ambiguous because it was unbelievable.

If it's so "unbelievable," you should have explained it more thoroughly. As a reviewer, shouldn't you be striving for clarity?

I wouldn't use the word unbelievable. It's just not obvious. It's also not worth arguing about.

I didn't think the fact that the SIXAXIS is translucent was that big of a secret. But whatever.

I can imagine, i was surprised when i first noticed it. It's VERY subtle, if you aren't looking at it under just the right lighting conditions, it's pretty much impossible to tell that it's translucent.

Still, I wouldn't have called anyone a liar for saying that it was without checking for myself first....

also, is the DS3 really that exciting?? I turn rumble off whenever I get the chance anyway, and i LIKE the translucent sixaxis.. plus its a freakin palindrome.. DS3 aint no palindrome.

No, I'll stick to SIXAXIS thanks.. guess I'd better go grab some extras now before they all sell out.

Question for all you DS3 fans though.. how is battery life with the rumble?? I'm assuming it's worse, but I you know what they say about assumption.

What is palindrome?

I don't know about this battery life. Pictures that I've seen show a smaller battery in the Dualshock 3. I'm still waiting to see.

A palindrome is any word or phrase that reads the same forwards and backwards.

Some examples: mom, dad, wow, race car.

The ump will always tion you? I don't know if battery life is shorter on the DS3 but it still lasts awhile before I notice it goes down. I usually recharge it fairly frequently though (usb to laptop).

Also, sorry about making a fuss earlier, VIAN.

I just started using my DS3, and... woah! It's freakin' heavy!

It will take a little getting used to. The D-Pad in particular is pretty different.
