OK, I give.....I've read the links and cannot get it setup.....SETI going through orangekids proxy....what is the secret in getting it goin?
 
Love to help, just need some info on how you are trying to set it up. CLI, SETIDRIVER, etc., and what settings you are using to try to connect. 🙂
 
I tried CLI but could not get it to start properly....running SETI DRIVER at present... I can connect fine, it's getting both processors involved that has me flumixed...
 
Ah, with SETIDRIVER, there is a setting Maximum Processes, set that to the # of CPUs you have, so in your case that would be 2. That will start a SETI process for each CPU. 😀

Also make sure that the SETI CLI and SETIDRIVER are in the same folder. And do NOT click on the New Client button, as that will delete the SETI CLI client and you will have to re-download. :Q

IF by start properly on the SETI CLI, you mean running on both CPUs, yeah, SETI isn't SMP aware. Without SETIDRIVER or another program like it, you would have to have 2 SETI folders, and start up 1 SETI CLI for each CPU.
 
Yeah unfortunately you cant have both CPUs working on the same WU - that would just be too nice! 😀
 
We'll have to wait for one of the dually experts on that question. There is an Affinity setting that is supposed to make sure that they each run on a different CPU, but I thought there was a problem with it.

He is one of our resident SMP experts. He at one time had a 6-way ALR unit running DC projects. 😀

I've got two dualie rigs...one running SETI at the moment. Using SETIDriver/CLI (only one copy in one directory)...set maximum processes to two (in SETIDriver)...and, not sure if necessary, but I do it, check the "Processor Affinity" boxn (again, in SETIDriver)...hit "Save Config". SETIDriver will then run two instances of the client...one on each processor. No hassle, mess or fuss. ....Hopefully, it will do the same for you! 🙂

Make sure to place a copy of SETIDriver in the "Startup" folder to make sure it runs....(or run it as a service! 🙂 )


 
No experience with SETI Driver - I used SetiQueue for one of my servers, and just the regular CLI with SetiSpy to keep track of the clients.

With the CLI, assuming you have a dual-cpu rig, you'll want to have 2 seperate directories each with its own CLI client. Let's call those SETI1 and SETI2. And to keep the typing down, we'll rename the client to S1.exe and S2.exe respectively.

The command line parameters for the first client would be:

c:\seti1\s1.exe -cpu 1 -verbose -proxy orangekid.teamanandtech.com:5001

The -verbose switch will allow us to see the output. Honestly, what I always did when I'd first setup a new machine, is I'd run the client without the -proxy orangekid.teamanandtech.com:5001 part as I'd occasionally have trouble downloading the initial work unit. After you've got the first unit - it's pretty much smooth sailing after that.

When I had my herd all running here at home, I setup one box as a SetiQueue server with an internal static IP of 192.168.1.40 with the SetiQueue port at 5517; this way all of my client PCs would be configured like so:

c:\seti1\s1.exe -cpu 1 -verbose -proxy 192.168.1.40:5517

This would allow all of my PCs in the house (17 at one point! :Q ) to connect to the server for their work units, and that one server would in turn connect to OrangeKid's proxy.

I know that SetiDriver is very popular with my teammates - I've just never had reason to use it. 😉

Just to add to Engineer's instructions - Seti Driver will only show the progress of 1 of the WUs(the one that is the furthest along % wise) I believe that SetiWatch will allow you to see the progress of both (i think).

You can also check your Task manager to see if both CPUs are at 100% which will tell you if both are working😀 (win2k observations - not sure about other OS's)

Now I'm more confused...

Device Mgr shows MPS multiprocessor...but task mgr shows 100% usage. It has two bars with a split in the middle. Is this both processors running at 100% and the SETI Driver maximum processes set at 2? Task Mgr does not show 2 processors other than the green bars with the split.

Sorry about this but it's been awhile since I had my BP6 up and running.

This one is a dual PIII 700@933 rig...

I think you are on the Performance tab of Task Manager...which would show 100% if running two instances of SETI...🙂

Go to the "Processes" tab of taskmanager and look for two SETIathome clients...each hogging about 50% (or tad less)...🙂

Should be good to go then! 🙂
 
Sounds like you're on the right track. You can also tell SETIDriver not to hide processing, which should yield two separate CLI windows. In Task Manager, the Processes tab should show each client getting about 50% of the CPU time. 🙂
 
Ah! Ok, now we got it! Uncheck the hide processes and 2 CLI windows pop up.....both CPUs at 50% and that doubles my output of WUs😀 over my old comp.

Thanks everyone....I learned something today so one goal has been reached!😛.....'course my wife says go eat a WU.....seems my troubles have just begun.....:Q
