dual wireless cards a problem?

Since my laptop has been having problems keeping a connection to my router I decided to buy a new usb wireless adapter to see if it would improve the connection.
I'm wondering if it's going to be a problem if I use both connections or if I need to disable the internal wireless card. The new card seems to work so far, but I'm not sure it's any better than the old one. Is there any advantage to using both adapters at once (i.e. if one of them disconnects from the router the other can keep the connection? Can they interfere with each other or something to make the connection worse?

i have a pc that has wireless ethernet over powerline and wireless. when the wireless goes to poop i have the powerline set to 10mbps and windows just switches pretty seemlessly as a CLIENT. the preferred metric for new sessions is powerline when wifi drops out, or drops below 10mbps - powerline was $20 for 2 200mbps bridges and it gets 8-16 mbps so i figure at 10 is good backup. windows auto metrics handles the failover
