Hi

Is there a way to get 2 powersupplys working in a 'ordinary' desktop system ? For example splitting the power so that the cpu/mobo gets one and all the devices harddrive , video, cd/dvd and floppy gets one?

Yes, you need to make the 2nd psu work without a mobo, which can be doen. You need to run a wire from the green wire on the atx connector to any of the 6 ground wires in the same connector. this will make the psu on all the time. search for a how to guide to make my basic directions a little more clear.

yes you can do it!

you'll have to have one that is plugged into the atx connector on the board and 12v whatever for the newer amd boards and p4 boards...

what the guy above was saying.... with a second psu, you can start it up with the motherboard. there's a wire trick where you jump start the psu by putting a wire between two of the connectors on the 20 pin connector.

so you can use the second psu to power up your hard drive and all that other good stuff!

if you look over at www.bleedingedge.com and look at the article on doing the 3.3v rail mod, there's a diagram that shows you how to start the psu up.

Agreed. Get an Antec Truepower, install it, use it for years to come. Much less hassle. :)

I DO have an antec truepower...

but the voltage rails are so weak on the ic7

my 3.3 is around 3.1
my 5 is around 4.89
and my 12 is around 11.61

i knwo it's within it's 5% limit but it's not good when you start needing stable voltages for extreme overclocks..

so trying 2 psu's may be agood idea..

or volt modding the psu so you get more volts out of it! like i'm goign to do :)

i'm shootin' for 3.6, 5.2, and 12.5

Funny... I just asked this at HardOCP. You can see the thread here. The Cases/Cooling FAQ there has a very explicit diagram on the process.

Im hoping for stable rails at 2.4c@3744mhz (310fsb) with all my devices connected :D ;)

new2AMD and Shimmishim have you got a link for the 3.3v rail mod? (www.bleedingedge.com dosent work)

Ok i got two PSU working right now and the system is stable with all stuff connected hardrives, scanner, dvd and floppy...@ 304FSB 34640.4 mhz (havent checked with prime yet but dvd, divx encoding is ok)310 was a bit optimistic with air :D
