Dual Processors under win2k

hello.
i'm wondering if anyone has tried to run win2k on a dual processor system? i'm thinking of upgrading my system wth a new mobo, and i dont wanna throw my money away on something that wont work any good.
so i'd be very grateful for any links to tests, other threads or some helpful information.
i'd also like to know how win2k takes advantage of dual processors, i mean, how it works practically. is it like linux? or does it sort the programs on the processors?
well, any info on this is very appreciated. i'm new to this.

dual processors usually doesn't help any single application much. but if you run many applications at once, it can be a great help. i was bored so i tried running 2k on my dual 166's at home... really slow but that was expected. the good thing about dual cpu's is that you can do many things at once, such as burn cds, run photoshop, etc

Yes, look at sig. I have been running w2k on a dual computer for over two years now. It is great. While many programs arn't smp capabile you will notice that you can run many more programs effertlessly with smp.

2 CPU's under Win2k is great. I wanted to experiment with to see for myself what it was like. I glad I did. Don't really run multi-processor capable apps, except occasionally Photoshop, but the multitasking is great. I loaded up on ram and haven't looked back, ended up selling my Athlon to a friend of mine.

Ever have an app use up 100% of your cpu for anything more than a few seconds? Drives you nuts if you're multitasking. Well, if that app's not smp compatible, that meant it'll max out at "50%" (100% on one CPU), leaving you free to do other things while it chugs away. dual processors are also great for mp3 encoding, or running the distributed.net client. A dual CPU system won't be twice as fast in most situations, but there usually is a noticeable performance gain. If you never multitask, however, I doubt you should bother.

yup, run fine here on win2k advanced server, really love dual setup, never think to going back to single cpu

This is my 3rd dual 2nd with win2k without all the stuff about SMP capable apps,
or the argument about not seeing a big increase in speed it's like a V8 compared to a V6
it just does everything without working as hard.

I have'nt used a dual system yet but I'm setting up one in a day or so. Dual PIII 700's on VP6 mobo. Planning to multiboot with Win2k. Thought I should tell u that u need to enable smp on WIn NT/Win2k so that it can recognise the 2 cpu's.
(I think, I have the details somewhere) check microsoft on this or on the net.

ALso there is program SMPSeesaw which allows u to allocate tasks and/or apps to each CPU.

SMPseesaw is fairly useless, the same results can be achieved with task manager, setting the processor affinity. SMPseesaw makes this a little easier, if you want to isolate a process on a single processor, however 99% of the time, you're better off just letting Win2k handle the distribution.
If your HAL is the ACPI version, switching to a dual setup is a piece of cake, you just need to change to the Mutiprocessor ACPI HAL, no need to reinstall drivers or muck about anywhere else.

2 Tbirds sure would be a "hot setup"
