Dual Processor system: AMD, what should I buy?

Allrighty guys, its that time again to upgrade but this time I need a dullie because of rendering animations and what not. Heres the deal. Is it possible to go with a dual FX processor config? cause the Opterons are still very pricy. However I would also option for an opteron system config, but what would you guys suggest for price and power as well? also should I wait for dual head processors as well to come down in price? I know boxx is offering configurations with them. As far as the vid card goes I need an Nvidia as well. Now I can option for a single processor system, however, I wouldnt like to have two machines at once since that can be a hassle, still, what do you guys think? my bugget is from a grand to 1200. I dont need a hardrive nor cd rom capabilities.

Your budget is going to limit you to a single CPU system. Unless you want to go with a dual S462 machine, which is getting dated and will leave you with no upgrade path. Wait and get more money for a true dual machine, or wait for the A64 dual-core CPU about six months away. As for the best dual CPU boards, Tyan, Tyan, Tyan.

actually Im thinking of just going with a single processor system, since I need for afriend of mine to access a render machine while we work on the project it makes more sense for there to be a seperate machine to work from so he doesnt screw up my machine. Question however, are the dual cores going to be 939 socket CPU's? or 756 pin?

I think you are referring to AMD Althon 64 NON-FX.
Since AMD only makes one model of FX chip at one time, and currently it's the FX-55 which cost $800+ for the chip alone.

Allrighty so this time Im going to go with an Athlon 64+ base chip (either the 4000+ or 3500+), but which mobo would you guys recomend, I need one with a damn nice performance ordeal and is also compatible with Mushkin memory moduals, anyone?

I have an MSI K8T Neo Athlon 64 with 1.5 gigs worth of Mushkin pc 2700 ram moduals clocked at 300 mhz. And my HD is a raptor WD drive 36 gig, I might replace it though, and I have a DVD Mad dog burner, so there we go, thats what I have to play with bassically.

Get the DFI Ultra-D(check RAM compatibility first as it can be a picky board), or the MSI Neo4 and a 3200+ or 3500+ Venice core. They should OC well.

MSI Master2-FAR $212 shipped

2xOpteron 246 OEM $614 shipped

2x1gb 3200 Patriot reg ecc $340 shipped

The MSI comes with the coolers so you don't need to buy them, but you'll want to change the fans and add a 60-to-80mm adapter for CPU2. They are actually xeon 603 coolers so you can't use the stock AMD version , fvcked up eh? You can also overclock the MSI for a extra couple of 100mhz on each CPU for a free speed boost to around 248 speed. Alternatively the Tyan 2875 for $242 shipped here and 2x1gb Corsair 3200 reg ecc for $340 shipped and buy the retail 246 since the stock cooler will be fairly quite and cool well. Both boards use standard ATX PSUs and are ATX form factor eliminating that cost increase if you have a strong 20pin PSU and mid-tower or full tower case already, most do.
