Doesn't Tyan make a mobo that supports two S939 Opterons...?

EDIT: Nope, I was wrong... Socket 940 indeed...

Does not exist. Reason: Socket-939 and its processors lack the extra HyperTransport link needed for CPU interconnection.

You can however outfit most of the "workstation" type socket-940 boards with a single processor, and add the 2nd one later. Check mainboard specifications.

Yes, the Opteron 265. Or 865, but that's ridiculously expensive and only needed for >2 socket systems.

i know that du core is similar to dual cpu but i wanted a mainboard that in which i could now install a single opteron 165 and later install another opteron 165 to get 4 cores

I just saw over at Iwill that they have two SFF dual Opteron workstations and one comes with PCI express.

Preview here It's dual core dual opterons.

That's another layer of "forget it".

No Opteron 1xx, be it socket-939 or -940, can be put into a dual-CPU mainboard. You need Opteron 2xx for that.
