I know Tbirds are less money for the power. Now thats aside.

Do you think Dual PIII 933's, or One P4 1.4gig is the way to go?

I was thinking of the Dual PIII 933's since I can place them in a really nice Asus board CUV4X-DLS http://www.asus.com.tw/products/motherboard/pentiumpro/cuv4x-dls/index.html

and get on board LAN/SCSI and still be able to use SDRAM which is more than adequate and much less expensive than RAMBUS.

Feedback from the crowd would be greatly appreciated.

Friends don't let friends buy Pentium IV's.

Dual P3's... because wasting money on Pentium IV's makes baby Jesus cry. 🙁

lol You guys are great. Thanks.

After all that I finally found a review of the board I was considering and wasn't such a great review..made me think twice.

For the additional bucks that board would cost and the additional bucks that CPU would cost; makes more sense to me to go CUSL2-815E and just drop one P3 933 in. Should still run W2K fine; push my apps and games along nicely and leave me with a stash to upgrade my board and CPU later on.

It's clear that you would endorse the PIII over the "faster" P4 and from what I've read, seems the P4 isn't worth the additional money.

Thanks,

Considering a 1GHz P3 can in some cases be just as fast as the P4 1.5GHz...dual 933 P3s should kick the living crap out of one P4 under NT.

Dual P3.

LOL!

um, go for the p4 i'd say. then you can have a kickass system that "feels" fast, i bet it'll even beat my k6-2 300 at home gosh darnit.

I'm considering a new system. The price of the P4, 1.4mhz seems reasonable. What's the knock against the P4? What would the general
masses recommend with what's available now? :Q

I'd say duels with a MSI 694 Pro-AR. Sweet board for a similar price to the Cusl-2, You'll lose a couple slots, and the AGP PRO, but i personally could care less, only run 3 PCI cards.

Haven't played with it enough to tell you if it the greatest board ever though.🙂 Problems could arrise.

<< hell if you said 1 p3-933 or a p4-1.4 i'd have said p3. >>

Yeah...I was just thinking....would the P4 1.4Ghz even beat a Single P3-933? 😉 Defaintely the Duals.

Terrapin~

It really depends on what you are going to be doing with the PC. Win2K supports SMP so you will see some performance gain when multitasking. If you run any interleaved apps (such as Photoshop), you would also benefit from dual cpu's.

Flaming aside, the P4 with RDRAM is just not cost-effective (especially if you need 256MB - 512MB of memory)!

I have an 866MHz P3-CUSL2-c combo with Win2K and it's very stable and runs great, but there's no arguement from me that you can buy more performance for the same $$$ by going with a 1.2 GHz (266MHz FSB) T-bird and a KT-133A motherboard!
