Dual Monitors Own.

My dad got a nice laptop for himself, and so has no need for his old 19" CRT. But I decided to clean up a spot on my desk for it and it accompanies my 20" Acer LCD quite nicely. It's awesome to have 1 monitor for applications and another for background tasks (file transfers, searches, music, etc). I can't believe I hadn't done this before!

my dual CRTs died and now I have one 26" monitor. I don't miss dual monitors, but two smaller monitors = one large monitor >>>>>>>>>> one medium monitor

I used to work with one 22" in landscape and one 21" (4:3) in portrait when I read a lot of ebooks. Was very nice.

Now I am ok with a single 22" (as opposed to 2x19").

Depends on how you define support.
Supreme Commander is one of the few with built in dual screen support, but many games can still be played across dual screens (assuming they are identical resolution), if you span the display.
Obviously this doesn't work so well for things like FPS games where there would be a break down the middle of the screen, but for RTS games and the like it's not a huge issue.

As far as I'm aware, Supreme Commander is the *only* one that has proper built-in dual-screen support.

This is the PC Gaming section. I think you should have mentioned a game, perhaps.

I've been using dual screen for a long time. It's great for many things, but usually not so great for gaming. Only a very limited amount of games go well with dual screens.

Most of the time, during games you'll want the second screen disabled. I recommend ultramon for a dualscreen-using gamer.

Actually, I played World in Conflict and Call of Duty 4 and didn't notice any slowdown. I might have lost a couple frames, but being able to look at all my stuff in the background is worth it.

Yes. Yes they do. I remember running a pair of 17" CRTs. Man, that was hot, literally. Now I run a 20" and a 15.4" LCDs

<-- Triple monitors. 2 19" LCD's and a 22" LCD. I love it. I've had dual monitors since 9700 pro's were top dog.

3 different pornos AT THE SAME TIME.

Finally, someone admits the truth!

I'd run dual monitors more often if I had 2 identical monitors. Right now I have my PC hooked up to my 20" 16x10 LCD monitor and my 42" 19x10 LCD TV so occasionally I turn the TV display on and will do things on both screens, but there's too much turning of my head involved with my room set up. I do love playing games on my TV tho. 🙂

Oh, lots of games work great with multiple monitors. Then there's the Doom3-engine-based games that run HORRIBAD with Nvidia drivers if you have dual monitors enabled, and the random RTS games that don't lock the mouse to a single monitor (SUPER ANNOYING). Some other annoying quirks.

Amazing for RPGs, though. You can keep stat charts, drop lists, maps, etc on your spare monitor.

dual monitors and triple monitors are excellent for productivity and a must have at any computer-centric job. however, i had no use for them at home and much prefer a single 37" 1080p tv for gaming, movies, web browsing, etc 🙂

Ultramon is nice because you can force it to lock a mouse to a specific monitor.

I've got dual 19" LCDs at work. They're great.....at home I just have a single CRT becuase I bought it ~3 years ago when the good LCDs were still over $300. (and my CRT was $275)

I'll be replacing the CRT in another 2 years along with my desk with dual LCDs. Once you start doing work with dual monitors, it's really hard to go back. It makes you feel like you aren't as productive. It's nice to be able to read something in one screen and type on another.

sucks, i was reading the ultramon FAQ and forum, and it doesn;t help with games

Games are still limited by its own build in support, so only the Game developers can decide with the game can work on multi monitors or not.

my current work around, is to play in window mode, and manually force the window size dimension via registry, config file, or whatever. (for games that have no native support for dual / triple displays)
