Not just that, alt+tabbing is really annoying for the eyes. I would love to have 2 screens open so i can compare two files readily. I don't want to go around adjusting window sizes so that they both fit in one screen. that said, 44% is obviously too much - i say about 10-20%, depending what work is being done.

being a programmer, it would be extremely difficult to go back to 1 monitor from 2. as a matter of fact, there are many times I wish I had 3.

on a particularly difficult project, I can have up to 25 or more separate windows open from which I need to refer back.

Only if you're running an OS that doesn't handle multiple desktops. In Ubuntu I use 3 work desktops, 1 for chat/e-mail, and 1 for whatever internet game I'm playing at the time when my code is compiling or when I'm waiting for a program to finish running :p

Actually, having a second monitor would be nice if I were following a guide or something, but if you don't need a list of instructions or video editing or something where you need both screens active at the exact same time then there's really no point

Unless, of course, the second monitor has solitaire or Comedy Central or some other distraction on it.

I can't imagine it would improve my productivity much, if at all. I just open my apps in a specific order at work, and stack windows.

Well from somebody that uses dual 20" LCD's at work and Dual 24" LCD's at home I love it. In 1999 I was using a 19" CRT and 17" CRT. I remember my dual head Matrox card and how cool it was.

On one screen I can the ticket open with the user request along with Outlook and the second screen will have the tools running that will allow me to complete the ticket. Just today we had a issue with a application running fine one 1-node of the NLB cluster and the 2-none of the NLB cluster the application wouldn't work properly. The developer came over to my desk I had each node open on each monitor and started looking at settings in IIS. This allowed us to quickly compare settings.

At home I can the web up on one screen and the other screen I can have one of virtual machines running. My next system I am looking at getting 3 monitors. I have love having LCD space.

At my work a lot of people have dual head monitors.

UltraMon should be a built-in Windows feature. Windows is retarded about dual displays.

The Always on Top feature works.

Also, one advanced feature of Compiz is Windows transparency. It's great.

Mmm, you don't say.

Ubuntu multiple desktops is pointless. I could just minimize some windows in Windows, and then pop up some others and bam, "New desktop!1!1!" It's no where near the same as having two monitors.

More monitors = more resolution = more productivity.

I want 2560x1600 now! :(

I agree with it, at least for my job. Almost daily I've got a spreadsheet or some sort of source material over on the right monitor and my build app on the left that I'm entering the data into.

Plus, nearly every one of my users that I support has 2, if not up to 5 monitors that they use to spread out radiology and cardiology images and reports...so they definitely gain some diagnostic advantages to multi-monitor setups.

Dual monitors are great... you can have documentation or a user request viewable on one screen while working on the project on another screen. It easily improved my productivity by 25% at my old job.

x2.

I have my 24 inch dell LCD, and it's 100x better than my 22 inch CRT was for programming.
