Dual monitor woes

Im trying to use both an 8meg ATI all-in-wonder AND a 32meg GF2 in the same system in win98se, with two monitors. My plan is to reboot switching from PCI to AGP as main card for diff applications (games on GF2, video editing, etc on ATI) BUT (why is there always a but?) the GF2 will NOT do 2d unless it is the main card.
If the GF2 is the main card, no problems. If he ATI is the main card, instead of getting the normal screen, I get the "This card is initialized" screen, which then gets a bunch of garbage all over it (ASCII charecters of seemingly random colors).
Im using the latest ATI drivers, and 6.49 Det drivers...any idea what could be causing this problem?

Oh dear. I think you are in bad luck. I also have problems with WinME. For instance, I can't get an AGP SIII540 on secondary. But, on Windows2000 this is handled with no problems. I don't think the GF2 actually has a physical design problem, I just think Win9x dual monitor handling is inadequate.

Boy, that's suck...my suggestion is to try different version of GF2 drivers. I am running voodoo3 PCI and TNT2 Ultra, I had problem with win98 under Det. 6x (I think) and I had to switch to Det. 5.x, but since I use TNT2 Ultra, that didn't really make much difference for me, but you may loose some performance. Beside driver version, the way your mobo handles AGP/PCI may also be a problem. I had Epox board before, and experinced quite a few problem with the dual monitor setup, but after I switched to Tyan, the problem was gone.

I would recommend win2k too as you can switch pri/sec. monitor on the fly, and you may experience less problem...right now I dual boot 98/2k, but 99% of time I am in win2k.
