I am planning to pick up a used Voodoo3 PCI card to use along with my GTS. I have a spare monitor sitting in a box so I might as well put it to use. The Voodoo3 would be nice to have for Glide support too. I am a little confused about some issues though. First off, will I get one huge desktop or two seperate desktops? Also, if I maximize and app does it strech across both screens or just the one I am working in? How do you send send an app from one screen to another? And finally, would it even work?

I ran a voodoo 3 2k for awhile with a gforce ddr with no problems. You can also select the v32k for glide if the game supports it. You will get an expanded desktop. Some programs will dock to the other monitor and other wont.If you want the window on the second monitor just drag it over to it. it will stop if the program doesnt like docking onto the second monitor. I thought it was cool for about a week running dual 19" monitors. I later smarted up and went back to one 19". I didnt like all the desktop space it took up and found it just a waste for me running a tv tuner in full screen and websurfing on another monitor. Running dual can be very usefull if you play with Photoshop or some similer graphics editing programs having the tool tray on another monitor or web creation and having the html code to view on another screen while you edit it. Give it a try and see if you like it.

I do some work with Visual C++ for class and also to learn on my own. I am thinking that two monitor would make everything a whole lot easier since I could have a development window open on one monitor and help files/resources/example code on the other. I am stuck with a 15 inch monitor as it is. Another desktop would be a godsend at times. $60 for a Voodoo3 is a whole lot cheaper than spending $300+ to get a larger monitor too. Thanks for the info.

you cannot play 3d games on your secondary display. so getting a v3 pci card for glide would be worthless.

when maximized, the window takes up an entire monitor display. to span the window across several monitor displays, you have to enlarge it manually.

you can just drag the window if you want to display it on another monitor.

the card will work, but you cannot play 3d games on it. you can play solitaire on it. but forget about quake or anything...

Thats Bull MDay, Have you ever tried it. Glide supported games will autodetect the video cards in your system and let you chose the card you wish to run the game on.

I've used dual monitors for some time and I think you can't beat them for "serious" stuff where you have several apps going. You can slide windows all around, and I think the use of duals is starting to be recognized as a smarter way to work. It was also a no brainer as far as installation goes, unlike some other devices. I consider dual monitors to be as helpful as high speed internet access.
