dual monitor support confusion

How does dual monitor support, like ati's hydravision, work?

The card only has one analog and one DVI output.. does that mean we need one analog and one dvi monitor to use it? or do we have to buy another card to do it?

Also, is anyone using this kind of setup with an ATI? Can the second monitor be enabled/disabled without rebooting?

I think there is a version that has dual analog outputs. ATI card will drive to monitors. Though I am not sure how the support is under win2k and windows XP. Last time I tried it was when windows 98 came out.

Don't know much about ATi's implentation, but I do know that dual-head with 2 video cards is fairly easy to do. My guess though is that you will use a DVI->VGA adaptor to use the 2nd monitor. If you read the article on the main site about DVI you'll see how this is possible.

I have a radeon 7500 retail and it came with a dvi-vga connector and I have tried dual monitors (hydravision) its was kinda cool but they werent the same size monitors so it looked kinda weird

FWIW, I have the Leadtek GeForce MX2 DH Pro that has two HD15 VGA connectors onboard. I now that two NEC MultiSync E700s fed by the card. I'll eventually go LCD when the next great hot deal arrives.
