Dual Monitor setup Gaming/Work

I am an engineering student, and I often use autodesk for school/work, which practically requires that I use two monitors.

Anyways, I just had a couple thoughts today. What is the impact, if any, of dual monitors while gaming? Does it lower your fps to have a second monitor on the desktop, or on the net? What about the life expectancy of the card?

I guess I could answer the first myself easily enough, but I am feeling kind of lazy, and I was curious about the second thing anyways.

You can side-step this question by simply connecting the 2nd monitor to another video source, such as the built-in display provided by the motherboard/CPU.

So your primary display is connected to your fancy video card (discrete GPU), and the secondary display is connected to the plain old motherboard display.

This board doesn't have have onboard video.

Good idea though.
