if your game supports "windowed no border", and you can alt-tab in/out without crashing (Valve Source Engine generally supports this property, though some people experience random crashes for unknown reasons)

It's for Diablo 3. I'd like the second monitor for MSN, Skype, D3 crafting website, etc. without having to alt-tab.

You can get and use any monitor with any resolution. I have a 30 inch next to a 24 inch.

What you'll want to do this is "full screen windowed" in the graphic settings of the game. See support it and some don't. Although be aware your cursor could wander off screen.

when most games load, they go full screen... when you alt-tab out to desktop, the game minimizes

if the game supports "full screen windowed" as saratoga172 says, then you can alt-tab to another window (lets say Firefox in the second monitor), but the game still renders and you can see what is happing in Diablo, while your cursor/keyboard is fixed on your browser

from http://webcache.googleusercontent.c...um/topic/4663258182+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us, it looks like windowed mode might work for Diablo 3, but finicky

Depending on the type of game, running in windowed mode can either be no problem or a huge pain in the ass. What I mean by that is that some games (RTS mostly) use the edges of the screen to pan your camera. That gets really finicky in windowed mode because you actually have to aim for the edge rather than just tossing the cursor over to the edge of the screen.
